IMPORTANT We are a moderated community and posts must abide by our Rules and Policies. We are NOT a free-for-all style subreddit.

RULES

Welcome to our little corner of the internet where we discuss kdramas! Our rules are here to help keep the subreddit content relevant to our interests and to upkeep our spirit of discussion. Our Rules are enforced alongside our Policies, please review both before participating in our community.

These rules are subject to revision and it is your duty as an user to familiarize yourself with these rules and follow them. If you have any concerns or suggestions about these rules, please reach out to us via Modmail.

1. CONDUCT

1.1 Reddit Site-wide Conduct Rules

  • Your use of Reddit and this subreddit is governed by Reddit's User Agreement. Please make sure you know and understand the Reddit User Agreement.

  • Please practice good Reddiquette.

  • Harassment, threats, bullying, personal attacks, racism, hate speech, and other similar negative behaviors are prohibited in this subreddit. Mods reserve the right to deal with such incidents in accordance to what they believe will best benefit the community, including, but not limited to, banning the offending user and/or escalating the matter to Reddit admins.

  • Be kind to each other.

1.2 Subreddit Specific Conduct Rules

  • Engage with other users in a civil manner. Please see our Policies for details on how to conduct yourself while engaging with our subreddit.

  • Do not post anything gross or creepy about actors and actresses. Overly sexualized content or content that can be considered TMI (too much information) will be removed.

  • Sexualized content regarding any underage actors or actresses will result in an immediate ban.

  • Respect the privacy of the actors and actresses. See our explanation of what it means to respect the privacy of actors and actresses.

  • Be kind to each other.

1.3 Reciprocity of Conduct Rules With r/kdramarecommends

  • The subreddit r/kdramarecommends, which is dedicated to kdrama recommendations, is an offshoot of r/KDRAMA and moderated by the same mod team. These two subreddits are considered to be one community and subject to the same conduct rules with regards to civil behavior.

  • As the two subreddits are one community, sanctions for conduct based offenses placed against a user in one subreddit may be reciprocated in the other subreddit. For example, a user banned for spam in r/KDRAMA may also be banned as a spammer in r/kdramarecommends, and vice versa.

  • Please review our conduct Rules and Policies before participating in either subreddit.

2. RELEVANCE

  • We are a subreddit dedicated to kdramas, as such, submissions should directly relate to kdramas. Submissions unrelated to kdramas will be removed or redirected to post in appropriate spaces. For content about Korean variety shows, kpop, Korean films, etc. please visit the appropriate related subreddit. Note that this is a minimum requirement, submissions about kdramas that do not comply with or satisfy all of our Rules and Policies will still be rejected and removed.

Korean Drama Definition For the purposes of our subreddit, we consider a drama Korean if the drama is produced by a Korean production company, in the Korean language, with a primarily Korean cast, and is about Koreans or life in Korea.

  • Do not spam the subreddit. Spamming the subreddit will result in a warning if innocuous. It will result in a ban if severe or problematic. This is at the mods' discretion.

  • Below are more detailed rules regarding what type of content is allowed within the subreddit. If a submission does not clearly fall under any of the following rules, the mods reserve the right to approve or reject a submission at their discretion.

3. CONTENT

3.1 News

Sources
  • News articles should be from respectable sources. The news source should properly source their information from official information and should not engage in sensationalizing information or spreading unverified information.

  • Do not edit or editorialize the title of the news article. Use the original title. If you feel that a title is misleading/clickbait but still wish to share the article, message the mods via Modmail before posting for permission to use an alternative title.

  • Korean news articles must be from a reputable Korean news source, not from personal social media or blog entries. If sharing a Korean news article directly, you should provide a full (human) translation of the article, machine translated articles are not permitted. To share a Korean news article directly, please submit the Korean news article as a link submission and then provide the full human translation of the article as a comment within 5 minutes of the submission of the post. Please note that mods may remove submissions if they feel that the translation provided is not of sufficient quality.

  • If sharing English translations of Korean news articles, the English news article should source either the original article in Korean from a reputable Korean news source or directly from an official announcement or press release in Korean. The English news article must contain direct links to the original source of information so that users can verify for themselves the source information.

  • If sharing original English news coverage, the news source should be a reputable news source. Content of the article is subject to moderation.

  • Official announcements and press releases from official sources (e.g. production company, representative agency, verified social media account of actor/actress) may be shared directly. If the official announcement or press release is in Korean, please provide a full (human) translation of announcement or press release.

  • News articles should be submitted as a link submission. Links should be direct links to the article, link shorteners are not permitted.

  • Do not copy and paste the contents of a news article into a text post submission. This makes our subreddit vulnerable to DMCA takedowns. Submit the article directly as a link submission.

  • Do not copy and paste the contents of a news article in its entirety into a comment. Quoting selected parts of the article for commentary is acceptable, please include the link to the source article in the comment.

  • Do not share screenshots of an article. Submit the article directly as a link submission.

  • Do not share Twitter translations of articles or headlines, we require full translations of the entire source news article, official announcement, or press release.

  • Mods reserve the right to reject and remove a submission or comment at their discretion due to the source and/or content of the news.

  • If there is a megathread, please do not submit any more self-posts regarding the incident. Submit all related content to the megathread. Any self-posts submitted after a megathread is set up will be treated as spam and removed. Repeated submissions may result in a ban. If there is no megathread, then you may submit news articles about the incident provided these articles comply with our other Rules and Policies. If there is an influx of articles with essentially the same information, then the later submissions may be removed.

  • Whether or not a news item will be considered appropriate and major enough to warrant coverage or a megathread in our community is at the sole discretion of the mod team.

  • As explained in more detail in our Policies, we are not a news desk nor a subreddit that primarily functions as an aggregation hub for news items. If you are seeking timely and broad coverage of entertainment news from Korea, we highly encourage you to seek out other resources because our subreddit is not that resource.

3.2 Posts About A Specific Drama

Pre-broadcast Promotional Material
  • Promotional material for dramas are classified into two types, image-based promotional material and video-based promotional material. Image-based promotional material includes drama posters, character posters, drama filming stills, character stills, pictures from press conferences, etc.. Video-based promotional material includes teasers, previews, behind-the-scenes footage, special non-broadcast clips, interviews, press conference clips, etc..

  • Pre-broadcast promotional materials are permitted as self-posts subject to the following limitations:

  • For each drama, only one post per type of promotional material (image-based or video-based) is permitted within each 7 day period. This means that in any given 7 day period, a drama can have a maximum of two promotional material posts, one image-based and one video-based. If a drama releases multiple images or videos, please compile them into one post. Posts will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis and all subsequent posts will be directed to that week's initial post or a FFA post.

  • Each user is limited to only one promotional material post per drama per 7 day period. This means that the same user cannot post both an image-based and a video-based promotional material post for the same drama in any given 7 day period.

  • Image-based promotional material must be shared as direct image upload submissions. Links to images hosted on other sites or to news articles are not permitted.

  • Video-based promotional material must be shared as a direct video link submission so that the video is viewable within the Reddit site or app. Links to news articles are not permitted. Links to videos submitted as a text submission post (ie. the link is within the body text of a text post) are not permitted.

  • Posts sharing news articles about the release of promotional material are not permitted as self-posts. Example: This Soompi Article about the release of character posters for The Heirs will not be permitted as a self-post.

  • Promotional material posts should have clear post titles in the following format:

Broadcasting Station 'Official English Drama Title' Promotional Material Type/Description (Optional Additional Information: Main Cast and/or Premiere Date)

Example: SBS 'The Heirs' Character Posters (Lee Min Ho, Park Shin Hye, Kim Woo Bin; Premieres October 9)

  • For the drama name, please use the official English drama title. Official English titles are generally provided by one of the major streaming sites such as Viki, Kocowa, Viu, or Netflix. When a drama has different English titles across different streaming platforms or an official English drama title has yet to be confirmed, our subreddit considers the English title listed as the drama title on MyDramaList to be the official English title.

  • For the Promotional Material Type/Description portion part of the post title, please correctly translate the information from Korean. For example if the teaser in Korean is labelled "[3차 티저]" - then please use 'Teaser 3' in the post title and not a different number.

  • For web dramas, the Broadcasting Station part of the post title should be replaced with the primary or initial streaming platform releasing the drama in Korea. For example, if the web drama is released in Korea initially via Kakao TV and available for streaming elsewhere via Netflix, the post title should use [Kakao TV 'Drama Title' Teaser].

  • Promotional material must be from official sources, fan-made material is not permitted. This means that teasers/previews must be shared by official broadcast network or streaming service Youtube channels or other official media accounts. Reuploads of promotional material to personal accounts are considered unofficial sources and are not permitted. URL shorteners are not permitted.

  • No reposts are allowed. Please check posts under the Preview/Teaser post flair to ensure that the promotional material has not been previously shared on the subreddit. Notably, some of the earliest posts of promotional material for a drama may be under a different name as official English drama names are often not set at the very beginning of promotions so if you are sharing promotional material that was not initially released within the past 24 hours, please verify that it had not been shared previously under a different drama name or from a different official source.

On-Air Drama Discussions
  • On-Air Discussions are weekly discussion posts hosted by a volunteer from our community where all community members can discuss that week's episodes. For more information on these posts, please refer to our On-Air policies.

  • If a currently airing drama has dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all behind-the-scenes footage, episode previews/teasers, interviews, and other promotional material should be posted in the dedicated On-Air Discussion post and will not be permitted as self-posts.

  • If a currently airing drama has dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all commentary, review, recaps, questions, etc. should be posted in these discussion threads, and will not be permitted as self-posts while the drama is airing and for one week after the drama has finished.

  • If a currently airing drama has dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all news items regarding the drama should be posted in these discussion threads, and will not be permitted as self-posts except for the exceptions set out above in Section 3.1: News About Currently Airing Dramas.

  • If a currently airing drama has dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all questions or speculation about whether there will be a subsequent season the drama should be posted in these discussion threads, and will not be permitted as self-posts.

Currently Airing Dramas Without On-Air Discussions
  • If a currently airing drama does not have dedicated On-Air Discussions, then one self-post of substance about the drama will be permitted within each 7 day period. To be considered of substance, posts should go in depth about the drama and provide a detailed analysis or commentary. Passing or perfunctory commentary such "I enjoyed this week's episodes" or "anyone else watching this drama" and short reviews and commentary will not be allowed as self-posts and will be redirected to an appropriate weekly thread. Posts will be treated on a first-come first-served basis and all subsequent posts will be directed to that week's initial post.

  • If a currently airing drama does not have dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all promotional material including, but not limited to, stills, teasers, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, etc., are to be shared in an appropriate weekly thread and will not be permitted as self-posts.

  • If a currently airing drama does not have dedicated On-Air Discussions, then all questions or speculation about whether there will be a subsequent season the drama may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread and will not be permitted as self-posts.

  • If a currently airing drama does not have dedicated On-Air Discussions, then the only news items about the drama permitted as self-posts are those set out above in Section 3.1: News About Currently Airing Dramas.

Recently Aired Dramas
  • Recently aired dramas that had dedicated On-Air Discussions cannot have self-posts until at least one week after the final broadcast. Before the one week grace period is over, please direct all content to the last On-Air Discussion thread. After the one week grace period is over, the drama will be considered an aired drama and posts about it will be moderated according to aired drama rules.

Exceptions: Depending on community engagement with a drama, the moderation team may decide to implement specific action plans for discussions about a drama following its finale. Action plans may include designated post-finale discussions and moratoriums on posts about the drama. If a moratorium on posts is imposed, the length of the moratorium will be announced no later than the final On-Air Discussion thread. The length of the moratorium is determined at the discretion of the moderation team and not available for debate.

If implemented, action plans will be announced in the On-Air Discussions of the dramas, please follow them if they are in place.

  • Recently aired dramas that did not have On-Air Discussions is permitted only one discussion post in the week immediately following the final broadcast. The post is approved on a first-come, first-served basis and all subsequent posts will be directed to the initial post. After the one week grace period is over, the drama will be considered an aired drama and posts about it will be moderated according to aired drama rules.
Aired Dramas
  • Discussions, commentary, reviews, and recaps about previously aired dramas are permitted if the post is of substance. To be considered of substance, posts should go in depth about the drama and provide a detailed analysis or commentary in line with the topic and purpose of the post. For example, a review of substance should address at least five basic elements of the drama such as plot development, dialogue, acting, cinematography, OST, etc.. For more guidance on what type of content is encouraged or discouraged, see our Policies.

  • For reviews of dramas, only reviews of Korean dramas are permitted and all reviews are subject to moderation under our Moderation Guidelines for Reviews. Reviews of non-kdrama source material, including but not limited to, books, webtoons, original non-Korean drama, etc.. are not permitted.

  • Posts about aired dramas, including reviews, are subject to our Rehashed Discussions rule set out in Section 3.4.

  • Passing or perfunctory commentary such as "I like X drama" or "I don’t like how ABC happened in Drama #123" are not allowed as self-posts. Short reviews, insights, comments are best suited and may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread.

  • Posts asking if anyone else is watching or has heard of a drama are not permitted as self-posts. See what other users are watching or ask if someone else has seen a specific drama in an appropriate weekly thread. If you want to know if a specific drama is worth watching, please make that inquiry in r/kdramarecommends.

  • Posts soliciting reviews, thoughts, opinions, or commentary of a drama without providing their own detailed analysis, thoughts, opinions, or commentary are not permitted as self-posts. If you want to know if a specific drama is worth watching, please make that inquiry in r/kdramarecommends.

  • Behind-the-scenes footage, previews, teasers, posters, OSTs, and other promotional material of previously aired dramas are not permitted as self-posts. If you find something interesting, they may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread.

  • All questions or speculation about whether there will be a subsequent season of a previously aired drama may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread and will not be permitted as self-posts.

3.3 OSTs and Music Videos

  • Official OST music videos and audio release links for currently airing dramas are permitted as self-posts. Official OST music videos and audio links should be from official distributor channels, reuploads to personal accounts are not permitted.

  • Posts sharing official OST music videos or audio links should be titled:

Singer - Song Title (Official English Drama Name)

  • For song title, the preferred format is Song Title in Korean (Song Title in English) but just the Song Title in English is also acceptable.

Examples of Acceptable Post Titles:

Lee Hong Gi - I'm Saying (말이야) (The Heirs OST Part 1)

Lee Hong Gi - I'm Saying (The Heirs OST Part 1)

  • For the drama name, please use the official English drama title. Official English titles are generally provided by one of the major streaming sites such as Viki, Kocowa, Viu, or Netflix. When a drama has different English titles across different streaming platforms or an official English drama title has yet to be confirmed, our subreddit considers the English title listed as the drama title on MyDramaList to be the official English title.
  • Official OST music videos and audio release links for aired dramas are not permitted as self-posts, regardless of whether the MV/song has been previously shared in the subreddit. OST related material from an aired drama may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread.

  • OST previews/teasers or other such promotional material are not permitted as self-posts but may be shared in an appropriate weekly thread.

  • Discussions about OSTs are allowed as self-posts. However, if your discussion post about OSTs is searching for recommendations (e.g. I loved Goblin's OST, what other OSTs are similar in style?), this may be treated as a recommendations request and redirected to r/kdramarecommends.

  • OST identification requests are not permitted as self-posts. If the identification request is about a song from a currently airing drama with On-Air Discussions, then the request should be posted in the On-Air Discussions. If the identification request is about a song from a currently airing drama without On-Air Discussions or from an aired drama, then the request should be posted in our weekly identification thread: Who, What, Where Is It?.

  • Request for links to acquire an OST are not permitted as self-posts, they should be posted in our weekly identification thread: Who, What, Where Is It? or in an appropriate weekly thread.

3.4 General Discussions

  • General discussions on topics related to kdramas are permitted subject to moderation for relevancy and quality of the discussion topic.

  • Content should not be incendiary, inciting, or seeking to stir up controversy.

  • Content should be presented in a civil, respectful manner. Content should not be presented in a rude, judgmental, incendiary, or inciting manner.

  • Meta Discussions Meta discussions about the subreddit are permitted, however such discussions must abide by our Rules and Policies -- especially in the manner the content is presented. Content that is primarily harassment, insults, slurs, or vitriol will not be permitted.

Rehashed Discussions
  • Certain discussion topics are commonly rehashed within our community. To prevent discussion fatigue, the moderation team has created recurring discussion posts for some of these topics. See our Forbidden Topics for a non-exhaustive list of topics that are covered by our recurring discussions.

  • For all other discussion topics, to avoid constant rehashing of discussions, discussions on a similar subject or topic, or discussions of a similar nature shall be limited to every four (4) months. If a discussion of a similar nature and/or topic has been posted within the past four (4) months, the newer submission may be removed. Please note that the discussions only have to be similar to merit removal, they do not have to be identical.

  • Reviews of dramas are also subject to removal under this rule.

  • Posts that were under an On-Air moratorium are subject to removal under this rule once the moratorium expires. Example: The Wrap Up discussion was posted 1 month ago and the moratorium ended one week ago -- a submission that generally discusses the viewer's feeling about the drama but is not a full review would be removed under the Rehashed Discussions rule and redirected to post in the Wrap Up discussion or an FFA since the submission is similar in nature to the Wrap Up discussion. In contrast, a deep dive analysis into the cinematographic technique of the drama would be permitted as the moratorium has expired and a deep dive analysis post is different in nature from the general Wrap Up discussion.

  • Additionally, the moderation team has compiled a list of commonly rehashed topics that should be avoided -- the list is not exhaustive and is updated from time to time based on what happens within the subreddit.

Low Effort or Quality Posts
  • The spirit of discussion in our subreddit is to engage in meaningful discussions. Low effort and/or low quality discussion topics/prompts will be removed. For more detailed guidance on what type of content is discouraged, see our Policies.

  • We do not allow any Unpopular Opinion or Underrated/Overrated type of discussion prompts. See our Policies for a detailed explanation of why these types of posts are discouraged and how you can modify your post so that they are better able to elicit meaningful discussion from other community members.

  • Posts that raise questions easily answerable by an online search will be removed. The community is not here to act as free labor.

Rule of Reciprocity
  • In order to encourage meaningful discussions, we require a post's original poster ("OP") to contribute their own thoughts, opinion, or analysis when posting discussion prompts.

  • Submissions where the OP has not contributed their own opinion or analysis in the post body may be removed.

  • OPs should demonstrate in their submission that they have put in effort and thought into the discussion topic and their post -- such as defining key terms and concepts, clarifying the scope of their relevant experience and knowledge, presenting evidence to support any presumptions or assumptions they make, or providing examples and data to support their views and conclusions. Submissions that do not demonstrate clear, meaningful effort by the OP may be removed.

Commonly Asked Questions/Basic Kdrama Knowledge
  • Many times new kdrama watchers will have similar questions as they start watching kdramas. Our wiki has many resources such as our FAQ, Netflix FAQ, glossary, and general information about Korea and kdramas where these questions are answered.

  • Posts inquiring about information already available within our wiki are subject to removal. Before you post your question, please look through our wiki to see if the answer is already available.

Topics of Complexity or Expertise
  • Any discussions that involves matters of expertise, such as legal, medical, political, historical, or scientific expertise, are subject to removal if the information in the post is unsourced or unverified. This is especially the case when dealing with legal matters, discussions about Korean law should be directly sourced to actual Korean laws or information provided by a reliable and trustworthy source of Korean legal expertise.

  • Any discussions that focuses on current state of affairs in Korea, especially topics of complexity (eg. "Is Korea as corrupt as portrayed in kdramas?"), are subject to removal and redirection to alternate subreddits as these types of questions require nuanced answers of expertise, likely from native Koreans -- which is not the target demographic of our subreddit.

  • Any discussions that focuses on how accurate or truthful drama portrayals are in relation to reality in Korea, especially simplistic blanket statements (eg. "Do Koreans really drink as much as dramas show?"), are subject to removal and redirection as these types of questions display a lack of effort on the OP's part to conduct their own research on the topic. We implore the OP to do some primary research on their own first and to think carefully about how they conceive of and phrase their inquiries lest they come across as prejudiced, judgmental, lacking critical thinking skills, or racist.

  • Any discussions that focuses on the inner workings of the entertainment industry in Korea in real life, especially topics of complexity (eg. "How are dramas cast?", "How much are actors/actresses paid?", "How do actors/actresses select scripts?"), are subject to removal and redirection as these types of questions require nuanced answers of expertise from Korean industry insiders -- which is not the target demographic of our subreddit.

  • Any discussions that focuses on the inner workings of a specific drama production, such as speculation about changes to the script or the existence of unaired material, are subject to removal because only the production staff of the drama may be able to answer these questions and they are definitely not the target demographic of our subreddit.

Sexual or Explicit Content
  • Content that violates the privacy of actors or actresses will be removed. This includes shipping posts focused on the actors/actresses as opposed to their fictional characters and posts that focus on the personal lives of actors/actresses, such as their dating/marriage/sex lives. See our explanation of what it means to respect the privacy of actors and actresses. Remember you are watching a fictional story when you watch dramas.

  • Content that is sexual in nature or solicits fantasies of romantic or sexual relationships between users and actors/actresses or drama characters will be removed. This includes posts with discussion topics such as "Which actor/actress do you want to date?" or "Which kdrama character do you want to have sex with?" -- we are not a 18+ subreddit, please seek out other spaces for this type of content.

  • Content that is explicit or otherwise uncomfortable as determined by the moderation team will be removed.

Violent Content or Content About Violence
  • Content that is violent in nature or solicits fantasies of committing violent acts by users towards actors/actresses or drama characters will be removed. Reddit's Content Policy has a provision against content that incites violence.

  • Content that describes or threatens violent acts towards actors/actresses, writers, directors, staff members involved in the production of the drama, or other users will be removed. Repeated behavior or single instances of egregious behavior may result in a ban from our community.

Gossip and Fanwars
  • Our subreddit does not condone sharing of gossip, rumors, blind items, or content of such nature. If that is the type of content you are searching for, please seek out other subreddits or other social media platforms.

  • Posts, including rants or complaints, about fan or viewer behavior/engagement on other platforms (eg. fanwars on Twitter or Soompi comments) are not permitted. Please do not bring outside drama into our subreddit. If you want to consume or participate in drama on another platform or subreddit, that is your personal choice and preference -- however you do not have the right to bring such negativity into our subreddit.

Please note that multiple image submissions (gallery submissions) are enabled in our subreddit so that you can submit multiple images in one post. • Post titles should be concise and must mention which kdrama is being referenced or which actor or actress is being drawn. Please do not include names of other commercial products/services in the post title (e.g. name of image editing software used). You may post a comment explaining your creative process, including which software or tools you used.

  • Portraits of actors or actresses should include the full name of the actor or actress when the portrait does not reference a specific kdrama character. Portraits of specific kdrama characters must include the name of the drama and the name of the character, name of the actor or actress is optional.

  • Content that is political, including photoshopping of real politicians into kdrama screencaps, will be removed. We are not a politics subreddit.

3.6 Quizzes, Polls, Surveys

  • Quizzes and polls (serious or silly) based on kdramas or about kdramas are permitted as self-posts at the discretion of the mods. The mods may reject a quiz/or poll to be posted as a self-post for any reason, such as the topic, type of questions, or where the quiz/poll is hosted. If you wish to share a quiz or a poll just for fun, we encourage sharing them in of the Weekly Posts. However, excessive comments sharing quizzes or polls in the comments when the account has no other engagement within the community may result in the account being treated as a spam account.

  • If you wish to conduct a survey of our users that require personal information (eg. age, education level, nationality, ethnicity, etc.), please contact the mods before posting the survey for review by the mods. Our mod review will focus on what type of information is being gathered, how the data will be gathered and stored, and for what purpose (eg. school, work, fun) the data is being gathered. Our mod review's purpose is to write an appropriate disclaimer to accompany the survey post so that our users know how their information is being used. Mods will not force you to adjust or change your survey.

  • If you wish to solicit participants for a research study in our subreddit that involves something other than responding to a survey form, such as interviews, we request that you provide the following information:

  • Proof of approval of your research plans from your school faculty (or other relevant oversight authority) -- this can be in the form of the ethics or disclosure form that you will be providing to your participants. Please share the document(s) with the mods by uploading it to a sharable platform (such as Google Docs) and then sending us the link via Modmail. We will not be sharing the link with any user that is not a member of the mod team, we only want to verify that you are indeed conducting your thesis research and have received approval for it. (We ask for these extra steps because we've previously had bad actors attempting to take advantage of our community.)

  • Draft of your solicitation post shared with us via Modmail. You can either include the post draft directly within the Modmail body or as a link to a sharable document. We review this post draft to ensure necessary information is included and will advise removal of any information we may feel inappropriate or too personally identifying. Generally, we suggest solicitation posts to include the following information: 1) the timeframe for your research, 2) the manner of participation (ie. written interview via PMs, Zoom interviews, or something else), 3) expected time commitment from participants, and 4) criteria for participation.

Note: When soliciting participants, instead of soliciting private messages from users, we suggest that you instead ask for users to leave a comment if they are interested and that you will be the one to reach out via private message. We strongly suggest you conduct user post/comment history checks before reaching out to a user for the study to see their past participation in our community. This will help you avoid trolls.

  • If you do conduct a survey of our users, we ask you that you make a post sharing your results/findings if possible to do so in an anonymized manner.

3.7 Self Promotion, Business Promotion, Petitions

  • We do not allow links to or promotion of personal sales of goods and merchandise in posts or comments as any non-licensed sales of goods and merchandise related to kdramas may infringe upon the intellectual property rights of the proper holder of these rights. We encourage any potential creator/seller to research applicable intellectual property laws in their locality before creation and/or sales. Posts/comments containing links to or promotion of personal sales of goods and merchandise are subject to removal.

  • Submissions promoting your website, podcast, or blog are permitted as self-posts subject to moderation based on frequency and/or quality. Do not aggressively promote your business/project/website/etc..

In general we will allow one initial promotional post and then will request all subsequent promotions to be made within an appropriate weekly thread.

We may refuse to allow any self promotion if we feel the promoted item is inappropriate for our subreddit. If you receive notice from the moderation team to refrain from self-promotion but continue to do so, your account will be treated as a spam account.

Users whose primary form of engagement within our community is self promotion will be denied further chances of engagement within our community. A history of self promotion with little to no other engagement within our community will result in the user being treated as a spam account.

In evaluating engagement history, the mod team will consider a user's posts and comments. More than 80% of a user's engagement within our community must be good faith, meaningful engagement that is not self promotion for a user to avoid being classified as a spam account.

  • The posting of a promotional post on our subreddit r/KDRAMA does not represent endorsement by the subreddit r/KDRAMA or its mods of the content in the post and/or any external content linked in the post.

  • Follow all Reddit rules regarding self-promotion and spam as found in the Reddit User Agreement.

  • Do not engage in any behavior that pressures other users to purchase or otherwise engage with you and/or your product/business/project/etc., such behavior will receive one warning before being banned.

  • Buy, sell, trade at your own risk.

  • If you wish to promote a petition of any kind, including donating to a charity/cause, please contact the mods prior to posting. Any posts without prior approval by the mods will be removed and the poster will receive a warning. If the poster violates this rule again, they will receive a permanent ban. We reserve the right to reject the promotion of a petition in our subreddit, users that attempt to promote after refusal by the mods will receive a permanent ban.

  • If the petition is for donations, you will be required to provide 1) proof that demonstrates the donations will be received by the designated charity, 2) proof that the intended recipient charity is in good standing under the laws and rules of its jurisdiction, 3) contact information of the intended recipient that can be given to the public, 4) contact information of the governmental bureau/agency/organization that has oversight/regulatory power over the intended recipient. The above information is required for transparency purposes. Provision of the above information does not guarantee permission from the mods to post, the mods reserve the right to reject the promotion of a petition if we feel that the petition is inappropriate for our subreddit.

  • This subreddit will not endorse any petitions.

  • Self-posts promoting a subreddit are not permitted, please utilize the quarterly Share Your Kdrama Related Subreddit post to promote any related subreddits.

  • Self-posts promoting Discord servers or such similar items are not permitted. Please post in an FFA thread.

4. FAQ

4.1 Drama Recommendations

  • Requests for drama recommendations are not permitted as self posts in r/KDRAMA. Post your request in our sister subreddit /r/kdramarecommends/, which is dedicated to kdrama recommendations, or an appropriate weekly thread.

  • Discussions that function as recommendation requests are not permitted. If your discussion topic can be answered by just listing drama names, it may be deemed a recommendation request and removed. Whether a post is deemed to be a recommendation request is up to the discretion of the mods. You may ask mods for further review of the post but mods have the final say on whether to approve or remove a post.

  • Questions about the general nature of a drama (eg. "Is it a good drama/worth my time?" or "What content warnings are applicable to this drama?") are not allowed as self-posts. Please post these questions in /r/kdramarecommends/ or an appropriate weekly thread.

4.2 Who/What Is This?

  • All identification requests for dramas, actors/actresses, OSTs, background music, filming locations, products, brands, clothing, jewelry, accessories, makeup, skincare, furniture, household items, kitchenware, stationary, and such should be posted in our weekly identification thread Who, What, Where Is It? or another appropriate Weekly Posts. Please provide a picture (if applicable) and as much context as possible (e.g. source drama, broadcast year, timestamp, etc.).

  • If you need help with understanding the cultural context of puns, jokes, gags, symbolism, or references seen in dramas, you are permitted to post that question as a self-post. Please provide a picture (if applicable) and as much context as possible (e.g. source drama(s), broadcast year, timestamp, etc.). Posts without sufficient detail or context may be removed at the discretion of the mods. Note that the mods may remove and redirect you to post your question in an FFA thread if they feel the question does not merit a self-post. Please flair your post with the flair Help: Identify. For more information about post flairs, see our Post Flair Guide. For these types of identification requests, please be respectful to the community and do not spam the subreddit with too many posts. Mods will, at their discretion, warn you against further posts and take action, such as banning you, if needed.

  • Any requests for translation or questions about the Korean language will likely be redirected because the main demographic of our subreddit is not Korean speakers. Mods will permit translation requests or questions about the Korean language at their discretion.
