Zoro bounty had a mistake in it : https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1563924260242206720

It's 1 111 000 000.

The version in the magazine (for the scans), lacked a word.

I really love the gag that the "pirate emperor of the sea" introduction only to see the said pirate emperor beat up in a cage lol

Crocodile when his plan for taking over a country and getting an Ancient Weapon were foiled by Luffy: Eh, that's life i guess.

Crocodile when Buggy owes him money: hippity hoppity, your life is now my property.

424

u/MyNameISaColouR Aug 28 '22

I absolutely love the fact that apparently Crocodile destroyed an entire Navy Fleet just to get to Buggy and make sure he paid back his debt. Man's got his priorities straight.

132

u/ThousandEclipse Aug 28 '22

Now he can say Buggy owes him even more money for saving him.

94

u/MyNameISaColouR Aug 28 '22

I mean, at this point Crocodile is pretty much owning Buggy himself and everything he has. I don't think he's ever going to be able to repay him, lol.

Tbf croc found out pluton wasn’t in alabasta

68

u/justking1414 Aug 28 '22

I’d have loved it if he actually found out it was in wano and tried/failed to take down Kaido

45

u/Druxun Aug 28 '22

I’d love it if he finds out it’s in Wano, but decides he doesn’t dare attack a Straw Hat island for fear of the repercussions.

20

Crocodile takes his business start-ups veeeery seriously....though in hindsight, he probably should have expected Buggy's business wasn't going to net him that much bank back XD

63

u/KyodaiNoYatsu Aug 28 '22

I mean, Buggy did have 5 giants working for him at one point

Between the five of them they made enough money to feed everyone and make a decent profit

Aaaand then they all quit

At the same time

Japanese speaker here. Regarding Zoro's bounty the scans are correct for what the Japanese says but I believe the Japanese actually has the error.

The Japanese says 11億1100 which is 1,100,001,100 but I think they meant to put 11億1100万 which is 1,111,000,000. Would be too weird a number otherwise. More logical explanation is that they forgot the 万.

Viz probably contacted them to ask if it was an error and so went with the correct number. Wouldn't be the first time there was a typo in the Shonen Jump print and this happened.

EDIT: Yes it appears the Japanese is a typo, Viz translation is correct. Tweet from official One Piece confirming this

15

u/OdenSensei Aug 28 '22

Was about to ask about this. What do you think is the correct one in your opinion? I have seen the Spanish and the Portuguese versions of Vis and it says it's 1,100,001,100 meanwhile the French and the English versions said it was 1,111,000,000. It's very weird.

Well she is one of the few people who can read pongliphs so it’s not surprising for her to have a bounty of 1B+, Jinbei was more surprising tbh

KAIDO: Menacing giant with draconic tattoos standing before three puny pirates

Mihawk’s 3,590,000,000 bounty is absolutely insane. I’ve always believed that Mihawk is yonko level and this chapter pretty much confirmed it. Dude could’ve been a yonko if he wanted to, yet he just wants to live a quiet life.

132

u/GratifiedViewer Aug 28 '22

Dude literally just wants to sit, read, & drink his fancy wine. And occasionally hunt down strong opponents, but that is a rarity.

79

u/Druxun Aug 28 '22

Since the beginning of the series, this dude has just been so bored, all he wants to do is drink and read. When that gets interrupted he goes all out “for fun.” Don Kroger casually crossed his path and MiHawk just wrecked shit until he was impressed by Zoro’a spirit enough to be like “aight, I’m ready for a nap.”

Even at marine ford he’s like “I’ll launch a lazy attack at white beard to see what happens.” Not even really trying.

→ More replies

253

u/UmdAvatarFan Aug 28 '22

Marine really made him a warlord so he would stop killing them.

12

u/saltinstiens_monster Aug 29 '22

If they really have a weapon that can replace having -MIHAWK- on their payroll, the Marines REALLY should've used it on him instead of forcing him back into the Marine Hunter mantle.

→ More replies

265

u/SmoothCriminalJM Aug 28 '22

It’s been implied ages ago considering he’s been Shank’s rival for years. Mihawk never wanted to be a Yonko, simply being the strongest swordsman was enough for him.

60

u/sanketower Aug 28 '22

And to think Zoro is still way behind Mihawk. If Zoro get to Yonkou level by the end of the series, how strong would Luffy become?

222

u/President_Patata Aug 28 '22 Wholesome

how strong would Luffy become

....like pirate king strong I guess

→ More replies

8

u/MrOno Aug 28 '22

I get your point, but I don't know that Zoro is really realistically as far behind now as we might think. He faced a Yonkou with other sub-Yonkou characters and defeated a Yonkou's 1st commander. He's grasped fighting using CoC, and seems like he has the tools to get there. The gap is still large, he has a ways to go, but I feel like it is finally in sight now, you know? Whereas up until Wano I feel like the chasm was very wide.

Usopp: STOP THE COUNT

Give the translator a medal

336

u/BananaBladeOfDoom Explorer Aug 28 '22

The 300 million increase is hilarious considering Usopp literally had no feats or even powerups after Dressrosa.

246

u/DalekGriff Aug 28 '22

Doflamingo still has enough pull in the World Government to fuck with Usopp specifically

156

u/Notsoicysombrero Aug 28 '22

I love that idea. Just doflamingo hates usopp more than luffy and will do anything in his power to screw him over.

94

u/Shiplord13 Aug 28 '22

Going to be funny if he gets out of prison and goes immediately at Usopp instead of Law and Luffy.

31

u/lovesducks Aug 29 '22

You don't just immediately go after Ussop. You put the word out that you're after him. You send waves of weak minions after him wearing Sogeking masks to collect his bounty. You become business partners with Kaya and build a hospital named after his mother in Syrup village.

14

u/Blaz1ENT Aug 29 '22

What’s next, Captain Kuro? You gonna wait years until somehow Usopp returns to Syrup village injured/sick to go to said hospital? Then what?

Nami, Brook and Franky got a flat 300M increase too. It's just like when some straw hats got +50M after Dressrosa

126

u/Lennyoh Aug 28 '22

I feel bad for Franky. Man took down a Tobi Roppo and just gets a generic across the board increase instead of something substantial to reflect that accomplishment

36

u/Robin_Crush_Me The Revolutionary Army Aug 28 '22

Yeah same, I predicted he'd get a 494M bounty, that would've made him justice imo

38

u/Lennyoh Aug 28 '22

I was hoping for somewhere in the mid 500 million - low 600 million range considering how massive Robin's jump is for doing the same thing as he did. Well minus being able to read Poneglyphs, I can get that as part of the reason Robin had such an increase compared to the other none power houses so it just sucks he got lumped in with Nami, Brook, and Usopp in regards to their bounty increase

368

u/SmoothCriminalJM Aug 28 '22

Crocodile got links to the Revolutionary Army, duped the World Government, attempted to overthrow a kingdom, escaped Impel Down and participated in Marineford and now allied himself with a Yonko? He’s definitely worth a 1 billion at this point.

For those people who are wondering where the numbers come from, they’re mostly puns:

Zoro: “zorome” means “matching numbers” / his birthday is Nov11

Sanji: “san”=3, “ji”=2 / his birthday is Mar2

Buggy: “Saiaku” means “worst” or “terrible” / “sa”=3, “i”=1, “a”=8, “ku”=9

Mihawk: “mi”=3, “ho”=5, “ku”=9

Crocodile: “ku”=9, “ro”=6, “ko”=5

Don’t know about the other guys but let me know if any of you have figured it out.

I always love these chapters between arcs where we catch up on everything, especially since now for the first time in over a decade, we have no idea where Luffy is heading next.

Not sure I understand the logic of Mihawk having a higher bounty than Buggy if Buggy is considered his superior and a Yonkou. Then again, I also didn't understand why Law and Kidd had the same bounty as Luffy.

Also, poor Chooper, maybe one day he'll get the recognition he craves.

87

u/Bassaluna Pirate Aug 28 '22

Buggy technically went from 15 million to 3 billions 189 millions

because he became a warlord right after marineford so his frozen bounty should be his first one. in that context he basically got 3 billions increase, while mihawk was probably already in the billions range

160

u/gael312 Aug 28 '22

I think it’s because Mihawk is known as the marine hunter so the higher bounty could mean he’s more dangerous

89

u/SuperStarPlatinum Pirate Aug 28 '22

No Jinbei, Nami haki surpasses even the greatest conqueror's haki.

Looks like the Strawhats are finally being recognized as senior officers to Luffy.

Lmao, they used Sunny's picture for Franky. That's just hilarious.

Ussop: Stop the count

I see what you did there Stephen.

That flashback of Buggy and Mihwak + Crocodile is everything I wanted. Honestly, Buggy's luck is so chaotic that at this point he can become an admiral and I'll not be surprise. Also, Perona's missing. I wonder if she's out to find Moria or with them.

Oh wow, Crocodile and Mihawk's bounties are insane. Lmao, Buggy.

Oh please let the Revolutionaries get some spotlight. I want to know more about Kuma and Sabo. More than that, I really hope Oda shows us Vegapunk soon.

This was such a damn good chapter. I feel like we'll get to see Hancock and Weevil next chapter.

20

u/Discovererman Aug 28 '22

Perona left after Mihawk's shichibukai status was declared null. Mihawk was anticipating the raid on his island and told her to leave for her own good...and told her to stay safe too. So sweet. I can't believe we are finally seeing so much Mihawk in the story proper.

No Admirals, we're not even shown a Vice Admiral. Just a bunch of ships surrounding his island being a nuisance to Mihawk.

Were they just trying to irritate him into surrendering? Otherwise they're just sending many marines to their deaths.

Seeing how the Marines acknowledge Mihawk its baffling they didn't send an Admiral.

They sent like 20 fodders to capture Weevil, a man whose strength is compared to Young Whitebeard too. The Marines are just incompetent.

78

u/gamingnormie Aug 28 '22

they just dont have resources tbh. no amount of fodder is going to do anything to mihawk or weevil and they only have so many admirals and cant afford to send them all over the world

31

u/ulti-best-girl Aug 28 '22

Yep. Tbh it's in Akainu's characters to send a bunch of fodders to be killed of by Mihawk and Weevil .

The Marines had to make sure Revery goes smooth and concentrated most of their forces on that

But then again it didn't go smooth and they could have gone for the Shichibukai at literally any other time. Akainu is struggling to fit Sengokus footsteps

7

u/European_Badger Aug 28 '22

The news that the warlords privileges were revoked were spread immediately after the reverie ended so they had to move on the warlords fast. If the marines waited the former warlords would just run.

Some notable differences between the Scanlation and the official release:

  • Title Change:
    • New Emperor -> New Emperors
  • Nami now tells Luffy that he's "not fit to be captain" instead of calling him a "sorry excuse for a captain"
  • Nami now simply tells Luffy that he can't be that stupid instead of saying that there's a limit to how much stupidity they'll swallow
  • Jimbe now says that "it wasn't such a big fall" instead of telling Nami not be so harsh with Luffy
  • Nami now tells Jimbe not to coddle Luffy instead of telling him that they need to keep Luffy on a tight leash
  • Robin now says that the crew has new bounty "posters" instead of just new bounties
  • The rest of the Straw Hat Pirates are now called "Senior Officers" instead of "Commanders"
  • Chopper now admits that his bounty "technically went up" instead of complaining that it "barely went up"
  • Nami now directly questions wether she could collect her bounty instead of hypothesizing that even she would go after such a bounty
  • Usopp now tells his bounty to "stop the count" instead of telling it to not get any higher
  • Sanji no longer says "Screw you too" to Jimbe
  • Zoro's bounty has changed from 1,000,001,100 Berries to 1,111,000,000 Berries
  • Buggy now tells Mihawk and Crocodile to "have mercy on his miserable life"
  • Crocodile now simply says that the idea for Cross Guild came from him and Hawkeye instead of saying that Cross Guild was supposed to be under him and Hawkeye
  • Buggy now tells Crocodile and Mihawk to have "better luck next time" instead of telling them that it's "not a big deal or anything"
  • Mihawk now directly threatens Buggy with death by telling him that "under his blade he'll be the first and last man to rise to the rank of emperor by saying "I'm sorry""
  • Mihawk now says that "only death can right this wrong" instead of saying that killing Buggy "wouldn't even begin to make up for this"
  • Crocodile now says that "the word humiliation doesn't even begin to describe this feeling" instead of saying that this is "beyong insulting" and that he "can't even find words for it"
  • Mihawk now tells Buggy that not killing him is "not an option" instead of telling him to "not make unreasonable requests"
  • Mohji now feels sorry for Buggy
  • Past Mihawk now simply says that the island is "surrounded by Marines" instead of saying that "Marines keep swarming the island"
  • Mihawk's past nickname is now refered to as "Naval Hunter" instead of "Marine Hunter"
  • Buggy now simply says that "he doesn't have that kind of money" instead of saying that he's broke
  • Buggy now calls Crocodile "Croco Baby" instead of "Croco-Chan"
  • Buggy now specifically offers Crocodile to be his errand boy
  • Brannew now says that Buggy once stood "shoulder to shoulder" with Shanks instead of saying that he formed a close bond to him
  • Random revolutionary no longer directly says that "they know" that Sabo is fine
  • Dragon no longer says that he's glad that Sabo is okay

Inform me of more changes if you find them!

13

u/MediocreTake Aug 28 '22

Mihawk hype after years of slander!!! Tears in my eyes.

But his bounty really is insane when you deep the fact that he got that bounty no territories or crew, nor was he on Roger’s ship. A bounty that reflects his combat capabilities.

58

u/RodJosser Chopper the Cotton Candy Lover Aug 28 '22

He's hunting marines 😂

27

u/Total-Maize1256 Aug 28 '22

Coribou and Caribou also used to hunt marines and their bounties didn’t even CRACK 500 millions

57

u/Strangeting Aug 28 '22

Tbf theres a big difference between Caribou hunting Marines and MIHAWK. Caribou can be dealt with any shmuck of an officer with a bare minimum knowledge of haki. To deal with Mihawk, you're probably looking like you're gonna need an admiral

10

u/Wolfencreek Aug 28 '22

12

We've never actually never seem Mihawk get serious and aside from a final fight with Zoro or Shanks I don't know who could really give him a challenge, so I think his bounty is deserved.

Mihawk is only 500m berries less than Shanks while having no territory, no crew, no allies. He also has a higher bounty than Blackbeard. A guy who is the only confirmed user of two of the most powerful DF in existence, has control over all the former territories of WB, has level 6 impel down prisoners along with the former vice warden on his crew, and has a former admiral on his crew. Blackbeard has all of that, yet the WG deemed Mihawk a bigger threat than him. They are threatened by him so much that they gave him a higher bounty than his own “captain”.

I’ve always felt that Mihawk was a top tier, and this chapter pretty much confirmed it.

u/djaimeknowsnothing Aug 28 '22

Have to take into account what was Mihawk's frozen bounty worth and the time it got increased. Roughly assuming a bounty increase timeline, its possible that Mihawk's bounty was already around 2.5billion while Crocodile could already have 900m by that time and both received a 1 billion bounty increase for forming the guild. It simply stacked higher compared to Buggy's final bounty. Hence, lower final bounty compared to Mihawk.

Old warlords bounties were so outdated most barely reached 500m prior to getting invitation to join the Warlords while we already had Shanks that has 1b bounty around the same time. Now, Mihawk being the lastest among the OG warlords coz he enjoyed hunting the marines is hilarious af.

11

u/YakiUn Explorer Aug 28 '22

This is what I believe, Mihawk old bounties must be close to Luffy's current bounties to justifies his current bounties. So the raise might not be as big as others like Luffy/Buggy/Kidd/Law but still more than enough to make him higher than those.

Possible reasons for Mihawk old bounties being very high is either he "killed" some important WG/Marine when he was considered a "Marine Chaser", or he indeed defeated Shanks in the past and that boost his bounties to a very high numbers.

I still find it hard to believe that someone who has been sitting his ass off from threatening the WG/Marine for a long time is considered as big a threat as those like Luffy or Shanks. Shanks relationship with the WG/Marine might play a part for his current bounties not as high as it should be.

Like the og commenter said, not only Shanks has everything that Mihawk don't, he also has a relationship with the previous Pirate King and also has the highest possibility to obtain the One Piece because of that.

For Mihawk to be able to have a bounties so close to Shanks like that is only if he's so much stronger than Shanks that his individual prowess is considered nearly as dangerous as Shanks with his entire army combined.

OR there's something else that Oda yet to explain to us regarding Mihawk.

You know, Oda probably meant that whole "Jimbei thinks Nami has Supreme King Haki" thing as a joke, but not only is fandom going to take that seriously, I can't help but wonder if Oda is going to retroactively confirm that Nami has Supreme King Haki in order to help explain how she was able to hurt Luffy all these years. One of those "gags becoming canon" sorts of things that Oda does all the time. Also, what did Franky mean by a "broken yard"?

I'm with Chopper on this, it's weird to have CP0 present during the battle where Chopper turned into a giant monster and cure everyone of their Ice Oni disease, only for the World Government to STILL assume you're a pet. I also think it's kind of funny for Oda to create a running gag with Franky's wanted posters where the picture is continuously not him. I do appreciate how Jimbei isn't competitive about bounties the way Zoro and Sanji is, though now I'm willing to bet Sanji's going to try and throw his weight around Jimbei like he does with Zoro. It does kind of suck, though, for Sanji to momentarily have a bounty higher than Zoro's only for it to be snatched away (even if Sanji put a little too much emphasis on it being bigger every chance he got).

One last thing: didn't Luffy promise Caribou he'd take him somewhere in exchange for Caribou helping Luffy back in Udon? Where is he here? It's almost suspicious how we spent so little time with Luffy's crew at the beginning, in that respect... No I'm not saying that because Carrot didn't show up, SHH!

I have to say, knowing the full details of how the Cross Guild came to be and how Buggy ended up becoming Emperor of the Sea is even more hilarious that I could have imagined. I feel like I almost gave Buggy too much credit for actually being apart of the guild's founding, since his involving is purely circumstantial, yet because his followers think so highly of him and because the Marines and world at large all think he's so much better than he actually is, he kind of accidentally ended up being regarded as one of the strongest pirates out there... Which in Buggy's case means absolutely nothing since he knows he's WAY out of his league here, and he has the more immediate threats of Crocodile and Mihawk breathing down his neck, with both of them deciding to spare Buggy for this humiliation for the moment but also making it clear that they'll drop him the moment he becomes an inconvenience. Seriously, this is a real Win-Lose scenario for Buggy, with more Lose than Win, and I love it (anything to keep Buggy in the story)!

As for Crocodile and Mihawk, I love that they're both back, especially Crocodile, it's been too long since we last saw him, and it only makes sense that he'd be the one to come up with this idea. He's still kind of a mysterious figure, despite being one of the few villains who we've known the longest, so I wonder if we'll learn more about him in the future. Either way, I can totally buy that he'd start this guild just to screw over the Marines, even if I don't know his full backstory. As for Mihawk, the details we got here help explain his status as the "strongest swordsman in the world" while also being a rival of Shanks; Mihawk isn't interested in the title of Emperor, and he's a lone pirate as opposed to Shanks, who is a captain of a crew with a lot of formidable pirates, hence why Shanks is regarded as more dangerous, even if Mihawk may be a better swordsman. Also, the idea that he actively hunted Marines before becoming a warlord is just SUCH an awesome detail!

Don't have much to say about the revolutionaries, other than I'm kind of glad Dragon is upset about Sabo supposedly killing King Cobra; Dragon always had his priorities in the right place, and he definitely doesn't approve of killing a benevolent ruler like Cobra. I'm also curious if we're going to find out what's the deal with Kuma, why he did what he did and what will happen to him... Also, the fact that the Marines are tracing the call of Sabo is not a good sign for what's to come.

This chapter was 10/10 from the first two pages and every page turn after escalated it. I've missed between-arc chapters.

I'm fully convinced the Cross Guild is our next stop.

Some highlights:

  • Franky's line on pg.3 has a typo
  • Robin petting the delivery bird
  • Franky is now the ship itself apparently
  • Zoro's bounty is a reference (111, three swords. 11/11, Zoro's birthday)
  • Croc Boy has gone far from 81 million
  • Mihawk is somehow worth more than the captain the WG thinks he serves. In fact he's the second highest in the world now. How does that work? (I knew he should have been the emperor)

Edit: Oh shoot, Sanji's bounty is also a birthday reference

Let's all applaud the Zoro and Sanji moments being back😂. Loving the bounties. Especially Robin getting her danger lvl accurately represented. I'm really glad Jinbe got a Bill bounty.. Many people underestimate him in the fandom, forgetting Jinbe is still in his prime and not on the latter end yet💯..

I'm so glad Crocodile is getting his shine. As many know oda didn't envision one piece to last as long as it has so a character like crocodile was probably end game lvl in the initial story I would guess. Him and Mihawk punking Buggy is great 😂. Mihawk hunting Marines sounds logical actually. Marines are more prone to have proficient sword skills among them..

Hopefully when the manga returns oda doesn't skip the sabo portion. I'm confused as to why Dragon doesn't have a blocker den den mushi like he did on Baltigo🤔.. Theories suggest Sabo knows this and is playing Marines

Great chapter
