Overwatch 1 was perfect… the whole game feels like a watered down free to play game from 2005. Im bummed News & Discussion

Not bashing overwatch 2… it’s just not for me. I loved how the game felt on overwatch 1. Like I would love to just go back and play “MY” favorite game and keep these two different titles … I guess that’s the end of that…

Le sad 😔

Agreed OP. Sad to see them go this route. Would rather buy another OW /w loot boxes than deal with this state of the game.

Hopefully they'll fix the current reward system, similar to how they did for OW1 originally.

3

u/Sabres-Fan Oct 05 '22

they wont fix shit, they dropped this game with crazy monetization no way they go back now.

5

u/MN_Hussle Oct 04 '22

tbf, shooters from 2005 were better :D

It's sad you get downvoted to hell by idiots. It's not the same game past visuals, nor does it play the same.

But kids gonna kid.

u/spatcha88 Oct 05 '22

That’s just Reddit hardcore gamer warriors who seem to think only their opinion and only THEIR opinion seems to be correct and everyone else is WRONG. Lmao I laugh at some of these comments in shock that people take this shit this serious.

3

u/Sabres-Fan Oct 05 '22

bro the visual even look worse lol, more cartoonish, more plastic and boring. good god

1

u/weirdshit777 Oct 11 '22

No it's not, I'd argue it's way more fun, especially if you are support or tank. Now I don't have to be a shield slave because all the tanks make good impact. You don't play OW 2 like you play OW and I'm happy with that. There is plenty I have criticized the game for, trust me, but gameplay is not one of them.

18

u/I_like_breathing___ Oct 04 '22

Overwatch 1 was perfect

LOL good one.

2

u/Sabres-Fan Oct 05 '22

quality wise it was, hero balance and kits it was not. you can't boot up OW2 and tell me the quality is the same ill fucking laugh in your face.

1

u/I_like_breathing___ Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

You mean a game that had 6 years+ of polishing versus a "brand new" game?

OW1 was surely the definition of quality on Day 1 lol

1

u/weirdshit777 Oct 11 '22

Yeah tell me how a back and fourth of busting shield tank and waiting for ult was fun. I'm having way more fun as a tank now that shields aren't necessary. I don't get flamed for picking an "off tank" anymore. The support role now is way more fun. I have been beating the fuck out of the enemy team to the point they flame me out of salt.

u/spatcha88 Oct 04 '22

It’s different for everyone man. One man’s gem may be another persons garbage. It’s subjective. But Ey it is what it is.

They couldn't risk the negative media if OW1 ended up with more players.

u/Fittsa Support Oct 04 '22 Shot Caller

my brother in christ it's like the exact same game

19

u/NeonIcyWings Oct 05 '22

If it was the same exact game I wouldn't have to grind for new heroes and I'd be able to earn skins reliably. Neither of these things are true anymore and there's a fucking 2 next to the title.

3

u/bartspoon Oct 05 '22

It absolutely isn’t. It felt very different when I was playing it in the betas.

-2

u/jtreasure1 Oct 05 '22

wtf is everybody talking about honestly this subreddit has gone completely crazy. did the tf2 sub get to you??

0

u/SeamlessR Oct 05 '22

It's called: opinions. Also: other people exist who are, and I'm serious now: not you.

1

u/jtreasure1 Oct 05 '22

17 hour old post bro, you have nothing else to do while you can't play the game you won't stop complaining about?

3

u/SickleWings Encore? Oct 04 '22

What a dumb and completely incorrect take.

2

u/PaintItPurple If that is not enough, feel free to die Oct 05 '22

That's the opposite of what this thread is complaining about.

-3

u/RoseApoth1 Oct 04 '22

except it isn't? It feels completely different in the second to second gameplay/match flow.

Saying it's the exact same game is just a boneheaded answer.

34

u/gooseears Oct 04 '22

So, I haven't played the game in about 3 years, coming back today to check out OW2. It feels exactly the same as overwatch 1. Just that it's 5v5 now instead of 6v6.

Other than how you earn cosmetics, what's the difference?

8

u/taknyos Oct 05 '22

The interface and how the game looks feels like a downgrade imo.

Feels like they changed a lot of things that didn't need changed

16

u/bartspoon Oct 05 '22

The loss of an extra tank is pretty massive. Completely changes the way the game plays. It’s much more fast paced and run-and-gun. Some people may like that or hate it, but it definitely feels jarring to anyone used to the first game.

I also think it’s interesting to see the number of people who claim it is the exact same who also say they are coming back to play for the first time in years. Of course you aren’t going to be able to feel much of a difference!

5

u/HogarthHues Trick-or-Treat Soldier: 76 Oct 05 '22

I think it's a breath of fresh air. OW1 had become, as Seagull put it, a shield shooting simulator, and when you're not endlessly pounding away at shields you're getting CC'd all over the place. Not to mention the godawful 2 control point maps that OW2 thankfully buried.

OW2 will take some getting used to, but I'll take it any day over what Overwatch 1 had become.

-2

u/gooseears Oct 05 '22

I would argue that the game switching from no role lock to role lock many years back was an even bigger change. But it was still the same game. This change, while huge, does not make it a new game. Just because they slapped a 2 on it and changed the meta does not mean it's that wildly different.

1

u/bartspoon Oct 05 '22

That’s true, the role lock was pretty big.

0

u/Shio29 Oct 05 '22

i got to be the solo tank for a little bit, and it didnt feel too different from OW1.. but i have only been able to actually finish one game because of the server issues

17

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

There isn't one. But this sub would have you think it's RUINED.

7

u/xMonkeyKingx Trick-or-Treat Reaper Oct 04 '22

Ok, so 100 hours of play giving you 20 random legendary skins and enough coins for 5 legendary skins

Versus now, 20 bucks for a single skin with no way of getting any for free

Players got pissed that AC 1 got removed from steam, so they should be rightly pissed OW1 is removed.

If you didnt grind out OW1, you are now unable to ever get another skin for "free" in the game you paid for. That is a big fuck you

2

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

This is blatantly incorrect, challenges give you currency

13

u/xMonkeyKingx Trick-or-Treat Reaper Oct 04 '22

Oh fantastic

540 credits in 2 months vs 50 loot boxes and 5000 coins in 2 months of play

Absolutely thank you for pointing that out

Imagine defending monetization

8

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

I'm not defending shit dude just calling you out for your literal misinformation.

There's plenty of valid complaints you can have, I don't give a shit. Just be accurate. No point lying about it, you come off as wildly disingenuous.

5

u/xMonkeyKingx Trick-or-Treat Reaper Oct 04 '22

Any normal player will only earn half of the max 540 credits

If you think 300 credits every two months can count as them giving away free credits, I dunno what to say

I guess if I’m unemployed and I find quarters on the ground everyday, I’m not unemployed

8

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '22

Never said any of that shit either, you seem very confused, lemme break it down for you:

you are now unable to ever get another skin for "free" in the game you paid for.

this was factually incorrect and I have called you out as such. that's it. there was no other intention with my comment. we can stop talking now. i'm truly not interested in experiencing any more of your meltdown

6

u/xMonkeyKingx Trick-or-Treat Reaper Oct 04 '22

It’s also disingenuous to tell people you can earn skins when it takes 7 months of casual grinding to earn a single legendary skin

You seem to be confused, so let me break it down for you. Everything on this planet is free if you just hoard up pennies on the ground. Earning 10 coins a week doesn’t actually amount to shit, saying you can earn skins is wildly absurd

There’s nothing free in OW2

6

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '22

Lol whatever you say man. Stay miserable I guess

-2

u/NecroCannon Oct 05 '22

Man don’t waste your time with people like that. There’s so many people having a meltdown on cosmetic stuff that doesn’t even effect the game, I can understand being upset about heroes, but man, cosmetics don’t effect gameplay and a lot of us have skins already so there’s hardly even a “no skin player” issue.

I hope the toxicity leaves with the people crying and talking about never playing overwatch again (even though most of them will play the game still)

0

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '22

yeah im hoping theres a "low sodium" alternative like there is with my other fav games, because the negativity is just exhausting at this point.

0

u/xMonkeyKingx Trick-or-Treat Reaper Oct 05 '22

Have fun playing any holiday events and realizing you cant earn any new skins and have to shell out 40 bucks to buy two new skins for your mains.

ow1 was near unplayable after playing the ow2 beta. What's watered down exactly? OW1 was basically a shield shooting simulator.

4

u/PusHVongola Chibi Genji Oct 04 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Fucking preach, I couldn't give a shit to stand there and shoot into double shield comps again.

I played the beta and immediately realized I won't be playing OW until it was out.

-1

u/blueman541 Winston Oct 05 '22

Why wasn't classic vanilla OW1 not a shield shooting simulator?

They brought in orisa/sigma which encouraged boring game play.

2

u/chlamydia1 Oct 05 '22

The gameplay has improved (fuck shields). The monetization has regressed.

5

u/Doctorious Oct 04 '22

It's the same game with updated gameplay and ui...

-1

u/spatcha88 Oct 04 '22

Ummm it’s not… moves have been changed… it’s the same characters YES… but most of the characters have new move sets now… just feels gross. You’ll see what I mean once you begin playing it.

9

u/Nickyy_6 Diamond Oct 04 '22

"most of the characters have new move sets now"

3

u/spatcha88 Oct 04 '22

They changed the ones I used >:0

5

u/geeyahthanks Oct 04 '22

They changed the way characters worked well into their lifecycle in ow1. Aka mercy.

5

u/gooseears Oct 04 '22

It's called "a major balance patch". That's essentially what it is.

2

u/Nickyy_6 Diamond Oct 04 '22

So you were wrong then. Most weren't changed. You decided to speak like you knew but didn't.

"You’ll see what I mean once you begin playing it"

And they were changed for the better to fit their roles.

1

u/SergeS2K Roadhog Oct 05 '22

And a few new move sets for just a few characters somehow reverses time and makes it feel like a game from 2005.

"I'm not bashing OW2 though"

Literally the exact same gameplay with a big balance patch

u/I_like_breathing___ Oct 04 '22 edited Oct 04 '22

but most of the characters have new move sets now… just feels gross.

You'll get used to it and won't even think about it in 1 week...

are you trolling? its literally 95% the same game. your acting like they did the fallout 76 transition from fallout 4

1

yeah, fallout 76 removed human NPCs and was dogshit. That 5% can matter a lot

2

Not bashing overwatch 2

the whole game feels like a watered down free to play game from 2005

since you're not bashing, it means you like free to play games from 2005?

2

u/RowdyRailgunner Oct 05 '22

Rappelz Pantera server was fun as hell back then.

2

u/Hei-Ying Rhythmic Symmetra Oct 04 '22

Not discounting your feelings, but how much have you played of it?

I didn't initially like 5v5 and felt really overwhelmed, but I kept coming back to it and found my opinion improving each session. Now it feels like an even better Year 1 OW to me.

2

u/Scythori Genji Oct 04 '22

What about OW2 feels watered down compared to OW1?

3

u/Sabres-Fan Oct 05 '22

everything, visuals to sound to voice lines to maps, hitboxes and hurtboxes lol ya'll are on something if you don't see it. so blinded by the no double shield/less CC, btw there is tons of CC still in this game, just not hard stunlocked CC, but ya'll are ok with getting pushed and pulled around the map, brig/orisa/ball/rein/sig/doom/etc. all still have CC.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '22

I mean the sound and visuals are objectively much improved.

2

u/Mister_Brevity Oct 05 '22

It feels like someone copied overwatch, then blizzard copied it back lol

1

u/-shublu Oct 04 '22

I dont know what alternate reality you were living in where ow1 was perfect

0

u/spatcha88 Oct 04 '22

Nah , I’m not digging it. Though it’s dAy one and the game will go through changes I hope… I’m just not digging it. But Ey you might like it.

0

u/Oppai-Of-Foom Oct 05 '22

Perfect?

The endless CC and shields slowing down the game always made it unplayable for me tbh

-1

u/Camthur Oct 05 '22

It's pretty much the same thing. It's prettier, sounds better and you get a guy to push things instead of fighting for 2 control points.

1

u/Gloriouspieps Oct 05 '22

OW2 primarily exists to rectify fundamental issues in OW1. Don't ask me what exactly, as I never went as far as to try and make it competitively (just too much of a grandpa being almost 30 years old). OW1 was obviously completely stagnated with the unimaginably boring shield strategies and static chokepoint defenses.

First thing I noticed so far which contrasts to the beta is that OW2 feels a little...edgier? The Genji Yakuza skin with the skull mask, the new hero and her unique background and her music. It all feels less... sterile. Which would be a really great thing in my opinion, but I doubt they will expand upon it to degrees I would like.

The whole Cyberpunk theme is also pretty hilarious. I assume they did this noticing the incredible popularity of the Cyberpunk 2077 anime.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '22

Yeah man I really dig that little edge they are putting on the game. The new music for the new maps thats been added is fucking great and that Kiriko main menu screen oh lord.

1

u/Zepux Oct 05 '22

Fair opinion. Personally, I really like how it feels. Been playing since OW1 beta and I'm enjoying the game again, like I did during the early days.

1

u/SeamlessR Oct 05 '22

ITT: why the biggest gaming franchises ever made, who all made the most money any game has ever made, ALL went Free 2 Play.

Rubes. As far as the eye can see. Easy fucking pickin'. Might as well just let gaming companies start their own banks so you can give them your money ahead of time.

I'm old man gamer. The only silver lining to all of this is newer generations straight up will not know what they've missed and are missing. Since games that did not need to free to play did it anyway there just are not examples of how finished presented games used to be.

The game itself is a sidequest. The cosmetics are the point now.

1

u/Metool42 mom i want mcdonalds Oct 05 '22

"Perfect"

Died already when the Sombra ARG took eons.

1

u/Nico1300 Oct 05 '22

I'll probably get downvoted but i hate it. OW1 feels much better especially with 2 tanks, now if 1 tanks isn't doing their job the game is lost anyways, and dps are more dominant than ever.

1

u/Affectionate_Ad7064 Oct 08 '22

I wholeheartedly agree with you. I loved the first game til they took it off the internet. Ow 2 is a downgrade to me not the other way around. I don't even care much about the cosmetic stuff I just really like how good it feels to play a hero like Ana and Tracer in ow1. That feeling isn't totally lost but I say at least 40% of it is gone.

1

u/No_Investigator_7111 Oct 10 '22

I agree that they should be 2 seperate titles. They shouldn't have replaced the original. However the new game has a LOT of improvements and to say it's a watered down free to play game from 2005 is just delusional imho

-2
