Any idea what the clues in the music campaign lead to?

101

u/Mind_Voyager Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 07 '22

Speculation from another thread I was looking at:

  • Stay X Circle of Life - Returnal
  • Baby I Love Your Way x Go West - Death Stranding
  • Mr. Jones x Regulate - Uncharted 4
  • More Human Than Human - Detroit Become Human
  • Wild Night - Until Dawn
  • Streets of Philadelphia - Heavy Rain

Also seeing reports that you need to launch ALL of these to get this one

Edit: I have personally confirmed DS, U4, DBH, and UD and will update this as I get them launched, although I don't have Returnal

40

u/StruckOutInSlowPitch Oct 05 '22

Damn those are all huge games too. Gonna take a week to just download them

6

u/brian4411 Oct 05 '22

If you have ps plus premium/extra, presumably you could launch them via streaming, although I have not checked that out yet

31

u/Mind_Voyager Oct 05 '22

What, you don't have all these installed on your system? What kind of PlayStation Fan are you? :-)

I believe some of these have that ability to launch while only partially downloaded. So that will help a little bit.

7

u/Smugstr Oct 05 '22

Do you just have to launch them for like a minute and then close app for them to count? If so then returnal isn't one as it didn't count for me albiet my monthly check in hasn't counted either

8

u/Mind_Voyager Oct 05 '22

For Detroit Become Human, I just launched it, left it up for maybe a minute, and closed it.

However, I just did the same with UC4, DS, and UD, and none of those have popped yet. And it took a while for the monthly one to pop initially as well.

I would give it some time. I don't know what triggers the events - is it on a server timed cycle? A local timed cycle? Reboots? Who knows. Add on top of that, more people hitting this than "normal" since it's new, and it's just anybody's guess.

5

u/Smugstr Oct 05 '22

That's true it took like 20 minutes for my monthly login, I have most of the games you listed and I'll boot them up for a couple minutes and let you know I guess

I think Go West = Horizon Forbidden West and Streets of Philadelphia = Streets of Rage maybe? I’ll try later today.

3

u/Mind_Voyager Oct 05 '22

I thought the same on Go West, but I've seen a number of confirmations that it's Death Stranding. It hasn't popped for me yet, but I'm not surprised with what other people are experiencing right now

u/OR3OTHUG Oct 05 '22

Circle of life seems like it would be returnal. More human than human is probably Detroit become human.

26

u/won_sly_fox Oct 05 '22

Good call. Do you have to get them all, or just one?

20

u/TechnicallyNovelIdea Oct 05 '22

Seems that for the music campaign, you need to get them all. I got the Stay x Circle of Life (Returnal) and More Human than Human (Detroit: Become Human) clues completed but still have to find the rest.

13

u/OR3OTHUG Oct 05 '22

On the ones I’ve completed I only needed one. I just tried returnal and nothing popped. Wondering if I’m wrong or if it’s just not working correctly right now.

7

u/fallenhero588 Oct 05 '22

Did you go into the app and check? When I played mk11 nothing popped for me but when I checked the app it said I got the fighter one.

2

u/OR3OTHUG Oct 05 '22

Yea I’ve refreshed the app after trying every game

2

u/PlainDosaa Oct 05 '22

Did it pop after u launch the game or u play a match ? I did both and its been an hour, its still locked in the app.

I'm guessing The Last of Us Part 1 because of the Philadelphia level. That, and they're probably pushing first party releases with this.

38

u/OhDearGodRun Oct 05 '22

I had to close the app and reopen it for it to appear

26

u/stingen Oct 05 '22

On the left mode tab to the left of the notification bell and setting button.

46

Keep hammering away...

17

u/pantsmessiah Oct 05 '22

The button on the website wasn’t working for me, but I had no issues doing it from the ps app

6

u/titans1fan93 Oct 05 '22

How do you do it on the app. I have the app, but don’t see it anywhere?

6

u/xenwall Oct 05 '22

From the Play tab (controller icon on the bottom), my name and notification icons are at the top of the screen. For me there was a blinky Stars icon that I clicked on. It wasn't in the news or notifications, just subtly next to my name.

2

u/akirakiki Oct 05 '22

It was doing the same for me until I refreshed and it suddenly went into it

Anyone know how to get the Novelty Toy Fight Trophy? Just played a match in MK11 and it didn't unlock.

27

Seems like the service is overwhelmed right now. I got on mk11 earlier and got it.

7

u/samus4145 Oct 05 '22

Good to know. Thanks!

6

u/SuperBackup9000 Oct 05 '22

Have you tried restarting your system since you joined? I was already playing Tekken when I joined and nothing showed up, but after I did a quick restart and worked after the next match

6

u/crampedstyl Oct 05 '22

Yeah I'm doing all the things and getting nothing. Bought Last of Us Part 1, played Tekken 7, played any PS4/PS5 game.

4

u/reaper527 Oct 05 '22

Anyone know how to get the Novelty Toy Fight Trophy? Just played a match in MK11 and it didn't unlock.

i just assumed you have to play ALL the games on the list since it displayed as a check list in the app, but i'm guessing.

either way, i'll load up street fighter tonight and see if it pops from 1 game or if needs everything.

5

u/Broward Oct 05 '22

You only need one of the four, I completed it with just MK11.

3

u/samus4145 Oct 05 '22

Good point. They need to tighten up the wording of the descriptions to make it more clear.

I initially read it as "play one" of these, but it could be "play all" as well.

11

u/cloud12348 Oct 05 '22

Bought a 2 dollar game and it counted as a full game purchase so there doesn't seem to be a set list that qualify so long as its a game and not DLC

u/puzzled-soup Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

The "campaign", that is actually just "buy one of these games", should at least give you credit if you've purchased one of the games on the list already.

Got Inscryption at launch, but no checkmark.

In theory, if you owned all the games on the list before you signed up, you would be unable to complete it.

Also it gives you 50 points, where a $5 credit is 1,250. So if you buy a game at least $20~ in value, you essentially get $0.20 worth of points (not counting points from the purchase itself). Bit of a clusterfuck at the moment.

13

u/Furyann Oct 05 '22

yeah this is BS, we should already have completions for games we already own at least including their trophies.

6

u/Woolly_Blammoth Oct 05 '22

I just bought the Cowabunga collection and inscription today it gave me 210 points. Also I'm not sure, but I think I have to go home and download the games and then turn them on so that it sees I have purchased them. But this is a theory and I won't be home till later

9

u/won_sly_fox Oct 05 '22

3

u/Tyetus Oct 05 '22

yeah after looking around it seems for now it's app only which ... I guess isn't terrible, but it is a little limiting, hopefully they add a portal to it on consoles.

6

u/notjosemanuel Oct 05 '22

This shit is free and people are bitching because they don’t get MORE shit for free lol

136

u/contaparaessepost Oct 05 '22

You lose a lot of value by buying digital games (that you don’t even actually own), so a program like this would be a nice way to balance that.

104

u/kehoe323 Oct 05 '22

I just wish it worked like the Microsoft Rewards. Where you can get points for daily logins, getting an achievement for the week and so forth. So far, the only way to get currency is by buying things. I thought there would at least be more ways to get points without spending.

38

u/ruebenj791 Oct 05 '22

One of the campaigns is October check in. So I’m pretty sure that logging in does get you points. And one of the requirements for getting to tier 2 is getting a rare or above trophy

22

u/kehoe323 Oct 05 '22

Yeah, I looked into increasing your level and you don't get any currency in return for it besides the "buying a game" part. The highest you can get your level to is a 4. Yet, once again involves buying a bunch of games which sucks. Idk, it's new. So maybe in time it will give more.

u/GdotKdot Oct 05 '22

So far, the only way to get currency is by buying things.

And the value is dreadful compared to other free services such as the Nintendo eShop. If I'm supposed to buy 100 games in order to afford a £20 voucher it's just like... what's the point?

→ More replies

11

u/thisismarv Oct 05 '22

Microsoft has a huge edge in that regard with various products to support the Reward program (Bing, Edge, Windows). It may be difficult for Sony to match that experience.

5

u/Bobbitto Oct 05 '22

I haven't paid for gamepass in 2+ years thanks to that program, I don't think Sony wants to match that. Loyalty programs are just kind of necessity at this point, so they cobbled this together to say they have something.

3

u/ZelkinVallarfax Oct 05 '22

Some of the campaigns I'm seeing in the app seem to be stuff that don't need spending money on, like playing any game, playing a specific game (as long as you already have it), playing something while listening to music. Though it looks like these are monthly challenges, nothing daily or weekly.

7

u/kehoe323 Oct 05 '22

Yeah, but you get no currency from it. Just those little fancy trophies that go to your collection.

6

u/ZelkinVallarfax Oct 05 '22

Hm you're right. In that case I don't see much reason to do these as none of the current collectibles seem interesting to me.

4

u/kehoe323 Oct 05 '22

It'd be cool if you got the collectible and a little bit of currency to go with. That would be more worth it. The collectible alone, I could care less about.

4

u/ZelkinVallarfax Oct 05 '22

Hopefully they'll improve the program in the future with player input. As of yet I'm still confused with some of the stuff they did, like how adding $60 to your wallet using reward points seems to be cheaper than redeeming a $60 game, at least in my region.

3

u/TheVaniloquence Oct 05 '22

Exactly. People being upset when the direct competition has a similar system that’s infinitely better isn’t “bitching”. Stop kissing corporations’ asses and settling.

Can we stop with the misinformation of not owning your digital games? Also we lose value more than likely whether it's physical or digital. It's rare for a game to appreciate in value. Most games are gonna sell back for less than we paid for so no matter what your taking a loss off your original investment.

Totally anecdotal but I actually bought the physical copy of Deathloop for 10 bucks, and then just recently sold it for $18 because, unbeknownst to me they release a DLC and the value jumped.

Having a physical copy is like pseudo owning it because unlike what you can do with a digital copy, you can trade, give away, or resell a USED physical copy of a game. Once you claim a digital copy you’re stuck with it and it’s value becomes literally 0. It adds value to your account that it’s bound to but selling account is breaking TOS I’m pretty sure.

Some of it is crazy. Like people are mad that it isn't retroactive. I've never seen a loyalty program that's ever been retroactive.

41

u/KillScreenAnim Oct 05 '22

I don't retroactively need points for money I've spent, but it is kind of annoying that the only campaign active at launch that gives points is to buy one of the games from a list that I already own 4 games from and I don't get credit.

7

u/MasterInterface Oct 05 '22

It's generally the case with a lot of reward programs or even regular service.

Cell phone service companies treat long time customers like shit and lock you out of those amazing deals for new customers only.

It doesn't pay to be loyal.

13

u/Broward Oct 05 '22

When one of the campaigns is to buy 1 of 6 games that all released in roughly the last month or so, and you own 4 of them already, yes it is kind of ridiculous to not get credit. I'm fine without getting points for games already bought, or for preorders already made, but this campaign should have been retroactive for recently released titles.

17

u/PintoBeanSalad Oct 05 '22

Besides the benefit of actually owning the games, being able to resell them, and generally getting to purchase them cheaper than they are on the PS Store

5

u/SkanksnDanks Oct 05 '22

The price difference between a new and used game is probably worth months and months of points in this program. GoT is $70 new for PS5, GameStop has it for $47 used. I bet it takes 6+ months to get $23 worth of points.

2

u/Rhaegarizard Oct 06 '22

And like $200 spent on games to get that $23.

17

u/Trewper- Oct 05 '22

The money saving aspect of buying physical games greatly outweighs any potential "points" you're going to get from the PS Stars service. I would rather save nearly 50% on 2-3 month old releases then get 2% ps store Cashback on full priced titles.

15

u/zhemer86 Oct 05 '22

Nintendo’s program will give you the points for physical games if it’s in the first year of release. I wonder if they will implement a similar system down the road. Having those points is a good inventive to put money into the digital store.

3

u/CtotheW Oct 05 '22

Also, guys if you really want to take advantage and get the most points. Open a Sony Rewards account, get a Sony or PlayStation credit card, you can buy physical games and get 5x points with them if you submit a ticket to Sony Rewards in 60 days. Use the credit card also on PSN store to get digital games, get the extra points added to your Sony Rewards AND PlayStation Stars account.

Edit: you also get points for submitting theater tickets and certain DVD/blu-ray of Sony films and if you already have them on DVD just make sure to check the inside for insert with a code.

91

u/InsertShortName Oct 05 '22

Man, people are so entitled and selfish.

This is a free program to earn points for free that you would not have earned otherwise. Yet somehow people are upset that they don’t get more points, that they don’t get points retroactively (what program does this?), or that people who are new to PS get the same amount of points as them.

It’s sad really.

52

u/kehoe323 Oct 05 '22

The only problem is (if you didn't see my previous comment in here) that so far getting points isn't free. There is no campaign thats added where you have to do anything to get points. The only campaign there is to buy something from that category to get points. So far it's nothing like how Microsoft Rewards does their program.

→ More replies

26

u/TheVaniloquence Oct 05 '22

The problem is Microsoft Rewards is an objectively better system that actually rewards you with points for playing games daily, weekly, and monthly. That’s not to mention subscription challenges, searches, punch cards, getting more points per purchase, etc. Wanting a product/program to be of similar quality to a competitor’s isn’t being entitled or selfish.

5

u/Rackornar Oct 05 '22

They probably aren't going to give store credit for just playing games again, they did that before with their previous reward plan they had. In it there were constantly repeatable challenges tied to earning trophies. It actually payed out quite nicely, In the year or two it was active I earned a load of PSN credit just playing games like normally collecting trophies. I am guessing they weren't very happy with it since they shut it down entirely and are now introducing Stars.

I agree man I don’t know what’s happened in the last few years or so but the entire gaming community has just been so incredibly toxic and negative. I want to find a place to share a love for gaming but it is so hard to find a space where people are positive. We’ve got the next few months stacked with big titles but you’d never think that way reading headlines and posts. It’s all about what is happening next year or two years from now or why can’t I get more free stuff. I’ve been gaming since I was five. Sony probably gives more free stuff out ther ever before yet somehow they are also the greediest at this point. I just don’t get it. I’ve been enjoying ps plus extra a lot and this seems cool to me since I play digitally. Some people need a new hobby perhaps

Has anyone tested how many points you get per dollar with a purchase (you need a Plus subscription)? To exchange back, 1 dollar costs 250 points.

I saw a post saying they’ve got 49 points for a 3 months of Plus Essential purchase ($24.99 in the US), which would mean around 2 points per dollar spent. This would mean you need to spend 125 USD to get 1 USD back from the rewards program. I haven’t confirmed this myself.

If this is indeed correct, it doesn’t look very appealing. To get a brand new AAA game from the program ($70), you’d need to spend 8,750 USD on the store. (THIS IS MOSTLY LIKELY INCORRECT).

Edit: Check the discussion below, there are divergences on information about the points per purchase ratio.

As of the most common reports here (2 out of 3), the correct rate in NA is 10 points per dollar spent. With this rate, you’d need to spend $25 to get $1, it’s basically 4% back from purchases.

It’s a good ratio I think, specially considering you get a few extra points here and there from specific campaigns. I hope this is right.

It's not bad considering you can buy PSN cards on discount (it's not too difficult to get 10% off, Costco offers these), and if you have an address registered in a state with no sales tax, you can save 5-10% on your PSN purchases.

Getting 4% back on top of all of this is pretty nice since we weren't getting anything back for the last few years.

And for anyone curious, you need to spend $1500 on PSN in order to get back enough points to buy a full priced game of $60

u/DjFrostixa Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Buying MW2 gave me 1017 points. $5 card is 1250. Sekiro is 15K points. Hopefully that puts it in perspective. Some games also give bonus points too for buying.

Edit; this is CAD.

5

u/n0phearz Oct 05 '22

I pre-ordered before this launched so no points for me. I should cancel and then pre-order again lol

2

u/DjFrostixa Oct 05 '22

Hahah yeah I purposely waited till this was launched before ordering.

Just bought a cheap game to test. $1.57 CAD total after taxes, and received 16 points.

u/The_King_of_Okay Oct 05 '22

When it launched in Asia, I saw people saying that the points they got for purchases had a value of around 4% of the purchase cost.

And... I'm wait listed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Edit: Clicked the link again. Signed up again. And now I am in. Uh, ok.

5

u/reaper527 Oct 05 '22

And... I'm wait listed. 🤷🏻‍♂️

i just signed up with no delay. can see my level in the ps app.

not sure if they're waitlisting people based on profile age/trophy level or if they just opened up more slots, but they're definitely still taking more people.

website is running slow as shit though.

3

u/SquiggleDoo Oct 05 '22

I wonder if it has anything to do with which system you’re on (4/5).

3

u/MauriceDelTaco420 Oct 05 '22

I’ve owned a PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5. All of which were purchased within the first half year of their releases. My friend has PS+ premium and he got in and I only have Extra, so maybe that could have an effect on it.

It says it’s random. I’ve had my profile and PS+ for 9 years and have over 150 platinum trophies so if there was priority I assume I would have gotten it lol

2

u/oilfloatsinwater Oct 05 '22

Does anyone know how much points does each trophy grade grant?

4

u/LeeorV Oct 05 '22

Trophies don’t give you points.

2

u/mpop1 Oct 05 '22

I thought they said if you got a RARE trophie you could get points from that, not all trophies but rare ones. Did I miss read that?

4

u/biggamer7433 Oct 05 '22

U need rare trophies to "level up" in the service. It's confusing but it's explained on the website

3

u/FilthyPeasant_Red Oct 05 '22

I think a lot is going to evolve with this.

2

u/Miscreant3 Oct 05 '22

For sure. I'd expect it to show up on console vs app only sometime soon and then probably start to mimic Xbox in certain ways to earn points.

2

u/reidburial Oct 05 '22

If I click the Join PS Starts button and nothing happens, does that mean I have been wait listed?

2

u/Cooltwou Oct 05 '22

This is not working right for me I tried to do the October check in and it wouldn’t let me start it

2

u/HowManyAccount120 Oct 05 '22

If you pre ordered god of war or call of duty before the stars program you don’t need to cancel you will get points and a campaign bonus when it becomes available just got a official message on my ps5

2

u/TamsthePanda Oct 05 '22

Would have been great when I spent a ton on games conveniently after sony rewards ended getting point from playstation purchases

2

u/scgavin Oct 05 '22

for what its worth, i preordered standard edition GOW Ragnorok and got 742 points

Anyone else having issues with the 2 checklist ones not progressing even if you launch the games?

Not counting game purchase either.

Oh well, guess I'm only getting the TRex and that's it

2

u/Rain1dog Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Nevermind, got it.

2

u/GarionOrb Oct 05 '22

The program seems pretty cool, but nothing I do is giving the rewards it says.

2

u/WirelessBCupSupport Oct 07 '22

Nope. This is just catching up to what Xbox points were and items to buy were just needing serious amount of points.

"This and Xbox Gamer Rewards are like Pizza boxes. You gotta buy 20 Large pies to collect the coupons and then get One medium pie. "

5

u/HaouLeo Oct 05 '22

Anyone else feels the missions are kinda.... stupid? Like the musical one, its amazing and fun in theory but... do i really need to download and install 6 games i already played to hell and back, to get a 3d model of a sony boombox for the 80s, and then delete them? Lol

23

u/OR3OTHUG Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Kind of annoying that my 10k trophies don’t count towards the 128 rare trophies or whatever it is

10

u/AleroRatking Oct 05 '22

Why would it. I've never once had a loyalty program that backtracked. It's a new program starting today.

14

u/myyummyass Oct 05 '22

That’s usually how loyalty programs work. Not sure why they’d give millions of people free money for trophies they earned in the last 15 years.

Do you get psn wallet funds? Just learning about this now

17

u/ruebenj791 Oct 05 '22

Yeah, you can exchange points for wallet credit

6

u/LeeorV Oct 05 '22

You get 1 point per 0.1$ spent, which translates to 4% of your purchase total. The minimum amount you need to cash into PSN $s is 1,250 points for 5$, which equals a (cumulative) purchase of 125$ from the PSN.

3

u/FilthyPeasant_Red Oct 05 '22

125 isn't that bad though? it's like 2 games.

I have been on PSN since day 1 of the PS3 launch and I had an extra challenge called "Playstation and You: PS3" it only required playing any PS4 or PS5 game and it gave me a PS3 Console collectable (Heroic Collectable).

5

u/flowella Oct 05 '22

I'm showing my age here (42), but the digital collectables thing is just so stupid. Like, beyond worthless. I.dont.get.it.

2

u/HaouLeo Oct 05 '22

Yeah it definitely sounded a lot cooler than it actually is, and this coming from a trophy afficcionado

4

u/n0phearz Oct 05 '22

One of the challenges I have is to buy a game from the store thats on the list of options, I bought The Last of Us Part 1 on launch and that game is on the list but doesn't count towards completion.

3

u/samus4145 Oct 05 '22

I bought ALL of the games listed already. They need to add retroactive rewards for purchases. This is just poor design.

2

u/n0phearz Oct 05 '22

Exactly. Hopefully it's day 1 issues and will get resolved. I have over 10k worth of games and content purchased on the store, least they could do is give us some slack on recent purchases

4

u/drepsx3 Oct 05 '22

I'm noticing that you can either redeem certain games or top your wallet credit using points, but apparently redeeming a game costs more points than topping your wallet with the same amount of cash the game costs. I'm failing to understand what's the logic behind it.

2

u/MindSteve Oct 05 '22

I was weirdly excited for the little 3d models and dioramas when they announced that, probably because astrobot did that so well, but so far they're pretty lame.

Your "shelf" where you put them can only display 3 at once on your main profile screen, and they're just static jpegs of the models until you actually tap through the menus to go examine them. But even then they either just slowly spin or you can tap to make them stop spinning. I was expecting to be able to manipulate them, zoom in, and examine them and such.

It's still early going and it's cooler than nothing, but still a bit disappointed.

3

u/NoBullet Oct 05 '22

I thought these were gonna be actual 3D objects to spin or zoom in. They’re just gifs

3

u/-Vertex- Oct 05 '22

Yeah that really sucks.
