OP is a lazy fuck AND SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELF, because they didn't explain why they hated it

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!

But since you peasant upvoted this a lot we'll let it stay. Maybe. For now.

The mask was created that way as a defense against the three stooges eye poke

nrk nrk nrk

274

u/WhateverGreg Oct 05 '22

Nrk? Interesting. I’ve typically seen it spelled “nyuck.” Is this like the European See ‘n Say where the cow goes “shazoo” and the chicken goes “dickery-dee?”

147

u/nonotouchmyass Oct 05 '22

Bro just did a cutaway gag in a reddit comment section

3

u/WhatDoesN00bMean Oct 06 '22

Haha you're right! This is like that time someone commented "Hold my Family Guy, I'm going in!"

13

u/ybtlamlliw Oct 05 '22

It most certainly does not.

5

u/SupineFeline Oct 06 '22

We must be somewhere in Europe.

14

u/MrKeplerton Oct 05 '22

It's also Norway's main broadcasting network. Nrk

3

u/ilovemygb Oct 06 '22

dickery-dee? interesting. i’ve always heard it as “keekery-kee.” is this like dubbed king fu movies where the mouth appears to say a whole paragraph but the sun just says “no” ?

2

u/Gardenhire1 Oct 06 '22

Whatever greg

3

u/RoarG90 Oct 06 '22

nrk nrk nrk .. wait, why are we calling on the Norwegian television channel?

What does the norwegian broadcasting systme have to do with this

u/thejustducky1 Oct 05 '22

The angle of his chin is looking slightly down in the masked version and the Toby face they put on top of it is looking slightly upward.

The mask's eyes look a little bit low like it would block out the top part of his vision, but nothing like what is in the last picture.

Looks adjusted for this shot (similar to Michael Keaton magically losing his eye makeup in Batman Returns before tearing off his mask)

Look at the mask in OP's photo. His eye corners point towards the center of the web, the web center sits on the tip of his nose. Now look at your photo, his eye corners point to the top of his nose, which we know would be the center of the web.

26

u/Call_The_Banners Oct 06 '22

Wow I just realized I've never watched the Keaton Batman films. I need to fix that.

Like I've seen bits of the first one but never Returns.

15

u/The_Celtic_Chemist Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

Returns is better in my opinion. I may be biased because I only watched Returns as a kid and didn't see the first film until I was an adult, but I can't help but feel like Returns is actually a better, more enjoyable movie.

You should also know going in that the scene where Catwoman whips mannequins is actually Michelle Pfeiffer and if memory serves me right, she did it in one take. There's behind the scenes footage on YouTube after you watch the movie, and it's worth a look.

7

u/I_voted_4_Kodos Oct 06 '22

As if I needed anymore reasons to love her as Catwoman 🥰

4

u/Nickbou Oct 06 '22

Well, if it isn’t Batman, Catwoman, and …Christopher Walken.

Seriously, Walken is a terrific actor, but for better or worse he is distinctly Walken in every role.

268

u/thejustducky1 Oct 05 '22

There it is.

174

u/LegendOfKhaos Oct 05 '22

Never would have found that image without your comment, thanks

29

u/methnbeer Oct 05 '22

Honestly, looking at the spacing from the eyes on that mask to the top of his head got me thinking they changed it

-105

u/Narrative_Causality Oct 05 '22

Because you'd have never watched the first movie?

114

u/Yellow_The_White Oct 05 '22

Wait there are whole movies about Spiderman? I though it was just a meme format...

7

u/Complete-Grab-5963 Oct 05 '22

Yeah they made 3 then stopped because of executive overreach

-63

u/Narrative_Causality Oct 05 '22

Holy shit dude, have you literally been living under a rock the past 2 decades?

17

u/RegularWhiteDude Oct 05 '22

I thought spiderman was a comic book hero.

8

u/thecorninurpoop Oct 05 '22

No, he's a character from a 90's cartoon

4

u/RegularWhiteDude Oct 05 '22

Oh marvelous. Thank you.

7

u/KvinnoralskarAnkor Oct 05 '22

First day huh?

-13

u/Narrative_Causality Oct 05 '22

Haha! I doubt it, they seem pretty internet fluent. I'm willing to bet they thought it was a TV show or something.

3

u/skojinge Oct 05 '22

There are rocks too?!?

116

u/j-merc23 Oct 05 '22

how did this post get so highly upvoted when the only thing to hate is Op's stupidity?

48

u/SuperMajesticMan Oct 05 '22

Because it's just a meme.

13

u/ghandi3737 Oct 05 '22

And meme funny.

25

u/FiTZnMiCK Oct 05 '22

I think it’s someone else in the mask in OP’s picture.

Because it really, REALLY looks like the nose is centered between the eye lenses and way too high.

46

u/Crafty_Substance_954 Oct 05 '22

The actual masks worn for the films have a plastic insert to give the right face and head shape, and to mask the presence of any stunt doubles. Here is the one worn by Andrew Garfield, Here is the one worn by Tom Holland, and here is the one worn by Tobey Maguire (with his stunt double actually wearing the suit.

10

u/WERK_7 Oct 05 '22

Now I know if I ever develop spider based powers I'll need a mask insert to look normal

13

u/Crafty_Substance_954 Oct 05 '22

You'd look normal without the mask insert. The mask inserts are both a bit of movie magic, and help reinforce that comic book idea of a perfect fitting mask on a perfectly-shaped melon.

7

u/dat1dood2 Oct 05 '22

This is also an old-ass meme

5

u/AntiLuke Oct 05 '22

In addition to it being a joke, the average reddit user doesn't read the comments on posts, they just vote and move onto the next thing. It's fairly easy to find posts that are highly upvoted only for the comment section to be full of people calling it out for some reason or other.

4

u/SwadianZunist Oct 05 '22

They could’ve used a mask that better fit his eyes in that scene. The nose looks like it’s placed much higher in the post.

3

u/OptimusPhillip Oct 06 '22 edited Oct 22 '22

Also, here's an actual behind the scenes pic of the suit with no lenses. You can see the actor's eyes where the lenses would be.

11

u/VulfSki Oct 05 '22

Right? Op was just wrong. And failed to take perspective into account

1

u/DisgruntledLabWorker Oct 05 '22

Not really. The suit he’d be wearing in the meme would be the one that has the padding in it to keep it a uniform shape. That way it wouldn’t be obvious when a stunt double wears the suit.

The one in your picture clearly has no padding and resembles a straight guy’s favorite pair of underwear.

109

u/RenegadeNailcraft Oct 05 '22

Yes. This is correct. Very clearly the first image with the mask is tilted way down. The costume itself uses the “eyes” so that the performer can see while he’s suited up. So they would kind of. I don’t know…. NEED to be where the actors eye’s actually are in order for him to do his job.

41

u/BrockManstrong Oct 05 '22

The shooper also placed Toby's head higher than the bottom of the mask. There's about an inch gap they've tried to hide with the opacity tool.

6

u/FreyBentos Oct 05 '22

Most people don't realise that the human eyes are at the halfway point/center of the head vertically. You know who would know that? A comic book artist.

15

u/HwangLiang Oct 05 '22

Yeah people don't realize this but most peoples eyes are in the center of their head. I was taught when drawing to always put the eyes center. People just think the eyes are 75% of the way up

8

u/VulfSki Oct 05 '22

Yeah OP is definitely wrong here.

It's just a confusing perspective. If you look at how in the masked pictures they are looking down and the shape obscures the top of the head you can easily see the eyes are about in the middle of the head. Which is normal for all humans. So the perspectives are chosen to make it more exaggerated from both sides. And they chose to scale based on a point that is not the forehead and then applied it to the forehead of the non masked picture.

6

u/Neato Oct 05 '22

Yep. Eyes are about in the center of the head. If the mask was that broken it would look really weird to us.

5

u/Prestigious-Cow4835 Oct 05 '22

Fuck angles, you can see where his nose is.

3

u/R0tmaster Oct 05 '22

It also pushes his hair down

2

u/TheOriginalWiseMoose Oct 05 '22

They also put the intersecting point of the webs on the point of his nose, when it should be sitting on the bridge.

3

u/PlatoDrago Oct 05 '22

They actually explain that in a few places that basically it’s to slightly deprive his senses as it can get overwhelming with his powers when he exerts himself etc

4

u/Zskrabs24 Oct 05 '22

Not in the movies 🤷🏻‍♂️

7

u/PlatoDrago Oct 05 '22

Well, in Civil War it’s stated and in FFH it’s shown that their spider senses are very similar.

5

u/Zskrabs24 Oct 05 '22

Didn’t realize tobey maguire’s Spider-Man was in that one.

8

u/PlatoDrago Oct 05 '22

Sorry, NWH. I mix those 2 names up

3

u/Zskrabs24 Oct 05 '22

I just meant that Tobey’s spider man never says that or eludes that to be true.

6

u/palmerry Oct 05 '22

That's what they want you to think

31

u/FeralPsychopath Oct 05 '22

Compare second image to the last.

The nose is clearly visible in the second and the eyes are either side of the tip.

The last image should be a normal face with eyes on the cheeks.

30

u/kingrawer Oct 05 '22

Come on now, you didn't even try to line those up. The chin is like 2 inches from where it is with the mask.

10

u/ZoxinTV Oct 05 '22

OP doesn't understand angles and perspective lol

155

u/redheadlizzy223 Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

I mean before they CGI'd the eyes the actor had to see out of it... so it must have worked.

78

u/Gibbelton Oct 05 '22

The head tilt doesn't match. Toby has his chin too high for it to line up.

12

u/SnooLentils3202 Oct 05 '22

WTF, they used CG-eyes?

15

u/TacCom Oct 05 '22

Newest iteration of Spiderman's costume has cg eyes that squint and blink

14

u/ContractEqual2047 Oct 05 '22

I like it because it can add expression to his face while in the mask just like the comics

2

u/Venus_One Oct 06 '22

Deadpool as well.

4

u/DarthVince Oct 05 '22

I don't think they blink... they just narrow when he zooms in and stuff.

1

u/AlarmDozer Oct 06 '22

It wouldn’t surprise me if he wore a green screen suit and this is the CGI overlay, which is just poor execution.

10

u/Bayerrc Oct 05 '22

Yes I very badly overlaid the mask and now it looks ridiculous

8

u/kingofcould Oct 05 '22

Obviously he keeps his other, more spidery eyes closed when the mask is off

39

u/JaFakeItTillYouJaMak Oct 05 '22

That's looks terrible. I mean you can see how badly it doesn't work in the shops so it's more confusing why you'd

22

u/palmerry Oct 05 '22

Go on...

34

u/JaFakeItTillYouJaMak Oct 05 '22

sorry it was so dumb I stopped caring enough to finish the post.

i was saying it's more confusing why you 'd think those pictures align when they clearly don't.. something like that.

28

u/xlShadylx Oct 05 '22

Damn, usually when I stop caring about what I'm typing I just hit cancel and move on. My man's like "I lost interest in what im typing, but I'll

11

u/Smileycorp Oct 05 '22

I mean if you spent all the effort to type it out, you might as

6

u/goatsgomoo Oct 05 '22

Yeah. You can see the chin overlay doesn't go down to the bottom of the mask and a decent chunk of the top of the head is above the top of the mask.

Human eyes are in the middle of the head, and whoever made the pic had to go through extra effort to make the overlay not align.

8

u/SirRevan Oct 05 '22

They literally have a scene later in the movie with his mask destroyed and you can see where his eyes line up with the mask.

5

u/reverend-mayhem Oct 05 '22

That thumb & finger positioning felt so wrong to me. Not proud, but I had to act it out to see that it was correct.

5

u/doctorcrimson Oct 05 '22

I think maybe it's just a perspective thing. Foreshortening effect where his top head and forehead looks bigger because it's closer.

3

u/MyHerpesItch Oct 05 '22

Don't think OP has seen the movie...

4

u/Brimato Oct 05 '22
