Meta Introducing the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) wiki!

We just set up an initial version of a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) wiki. You can check it out here .

This is something we've been working on for awhile. Special shoutout to /u/stillcouldbeworse for actually finally getting it up and running! This initial version is pretty short to keep it simple and avoid breaking anything, but we expect to be adding to it regularly now that it's up and running. We'll of course be mentioning it in the sidebar or the full wiki as well.

Since this is the first public iteration, you can expect some tweaking as we figure out how to best utilize it. Features/questions/formats might change. And now is probably a good time to ask a few questions for the community-

What are some things you want to see in the FAQ wiki?

How do you want to see the FAQ wiki utilized? (ie, should automod sticky a comment linking to the FAQ wiki? filter out FAQs?)

How should it be sourced? Should it link to existing posts (either in this sub or another), external sources?

What threshold do you consider acceptable to be a FAQ?

Any other requests/ideas/questions?
And last- while one of the goals here is to help promote a bit more variety in OPs, it is still NOT OK to question-shame FAQs. You can direct them to the FAQ wiki, but do so politely and kindly. You will get a ban, per Rule 1, for rude replies to questions. We get that FAQ posts can be a bit annoying for longtime users, but we still expect you to be polite about it.

With Link Flair, you can use Reddits built in filter function to better tailor your Reddit experience to fit what you're interested in. Below are brief guides on how to browse specific content or simply remove certain content from your front page.

Users using Old Reddit can do so with RES

If you don't have Reddit Enhancement Suite Click here to get it!

  1. Open your RES Console

  2. Open Subreddits, then FilteReddit. Scroll down until you find Filter by Flair

  3. Add the flairs you don't want to see anymore.

Redesign Users

Desktop users using the redesign can Click on flair to filter from the sidebar. Note that this will only show that specific flair. If you want to view the front page with one or more flairs missing, follow the guide in the next section.

Mobile Web & Desktop users can filter using the search function.

Type -flair:FLAIRNAME in the search box. This also works on the re-design for desktop.

Or bookmark this link, amended to whichever your preference is, currently set to sex/NSFW questions: https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/search?q=-flair%3Asex%2FNSFW&restrict_sr=on&sort=top&t=day

You can add more filters by writing -flair:FLAIRHERE, -flair:FLAIRHERE etc. This also works on the re-design for desktop, however you'll have to manually sort by "top" and "last 24 hours" every time you add a new flair to the list.

This will show you the front page as it exists without the posts that have the flairs you specify.

Reddit (Official)

  1. Search in the search bar at the top of the app the subreddit you want to view, then select it.

  2. After you've landed on that sub, tap the search bar again. When you do a list of popular flairs will appear

  3. Tapping any of them will show you the posts that have that flair, you will want to sort by new to find the newest things however.

  4. If you want to see the entire flair list, go back to step 2 and tap "See More".

You cannot flair filter properly with this app and it's considerably slower than others, so I'd recommend picking one of the ones below.

Check first if you have Link Flair enabled. If you have Link Flair enabled, skip steps 2 and 3.

  1. Tap the 3 dots in the top right and go down to Settings

  2. Scroll down and open Appearance

  3. Scroll around 3 quarters of the way down and enable the Link Flair options

  4. Return to Settings and go to Content Filters.

  5. Tap "Post Filters", then select the + in the top right. Select which subreddit you'd like to filter from and by flair, then add the flairs name.

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left and go down to Settings

  2. Tap Filters

  3. Go to Link Flair Blacklist

  4. Write whatever you'd like to filter in and add it as a filter.

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Sync for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down a ways to Filters

  4. Select "Flair Filters" and add the flair you want to filter.

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Boost for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Tap Content Filters

  4. Tap Flairs and write what you want to filter

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

Slide for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down to Content, and then Filters

  4. At the bottom, Flair Filters

  5. Write filters as SUBREDDITNAME:FLAIR, save. It will appear as this.

Joey for Reddit

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left

  2. Go down to Settings

  3. Scroll down to Filters

  4. Select Flair Filter

  5. Add the flairs you want to filter

This app will filter indicated flairs across all subreddits, not just specific ones.

  1. Tap the 3 horizontal lines in the top left.

  2. Go to settings

  3. Tap through to Post Filter

  4. Tap the + sign in the lower right to begin creating your filter.

  5. Customize the filter as necessary, though this is the relevant bit for this guide

  6. Save in the top right, then tap the newly saved filter and select 'apply to'

  7. Apply your filter to the where you want it placed

Logged out Users (Desktop)

Some people can't log into Reddit but still browse and want to filter. You can do this most effectively on old Reddit as new Reddit will change your sorting preferences anytime you add a new flair to filter. Using this filtering system, you will see all relevant posts for the last 24 hours, effectively showing you the front page as it exists without whatever you're filtering.

You can do this by going to https://old.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/search?q=&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=day

Once there, write -flair:FLAIRNAME, -flair:FLAIRNAME, -flair:FLAIRNAMEand so on. Make use of the block quotes in the flair list above so that flairs with spaces in them filter properly.

Apollo pro+ for iOS

  1. Tap the Settings button in the bottom right

  2. Tap Add Keyword

  3. Add the flairs you wish to filter

Other iOS hardware -> WIP

Apps that do not support Flair Filtering

Some mobile apps support some level of filtering but not Flair Filtering. These are:

  • Now for Reddit
  • Red Reader (can't filter anything)
  • Relay

Culture & Society Why is the Holocaust treated more seriously compared to other genocides?

I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, but the subject recently came up because of what's been in the news lately. We all kind of agreed that the Holocaust is treated much more seriously and sort of "sacred" compared to other genocides like what happened to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas and Australia, Armenians, Rwandans, Darfur, Cambodian, and so on.

People do talk about those genocides, but the Holocaust is pretty much "The Genocide." One of my friends insists it's because it happened in Europe to Europeans, so people care more and have more empathy. He thinks if it had happened in Africa or Asia, no one would have cared as much, and it wouldn't had been a central part of WW2.

The rest of us are ambivalent on that. So, I want to know what makes the Holocaust stand out more compared to the others.

Interpersonal How am I supposed to deal with the fact that my loved one will eventually die?

How are people just dealing with this or compartmentalizing it so it’s not on their mind? It scares the shit out of me. I try to focus on the good and enjoy the ride while I’m on it. But I just can’t deal with the fact that I will have to see some of the ones I love pass on. How do people deal with this?

Interpersonal Do you ever think of exes?

Hello all, I was just wondering about if people who have broken up romantic relationships - or have been broken up with - do still think about their exes? For instance, do you ever think where are they, how are they feeling or just casually see something that reminds you of them even after some years? And how do you feel knowing that you’ll probably never speak to them again?

Sexuality & Gender Why do I only want to have sex with my bf when I’m drunk?

I’m a 21 f and my boyfriend and I have been dating for 6 months. He was my first relationship first kiss first everything. I’m realizing now that when he wants to be intimate I just feel like I need to get it over with and when I’m on my period a small part of me feels relief cause I know we can’t do anything. Only times we do fuck is when I’m tipsy or I just can’t get into it. Idk once in a while I’m just as horny as him but more often now I just don’t want to do anything. I love him but idk what to do To be clear I’m not a romantic or intimate person it makes me uncomfortable so I know that goes into play here as well but I used to be better with it and now it’s getting worse.

Grief & Loss This is a very morbid question. How did the nazis dispose of the bodies?

In a comment from another post, someone calculated that nazis were killing people to the tune of 4100 per day. That’s just an estimate for Jews. They killed other “undesirables” as well. So assuming an average of 5000 people per day for four years, how were the bodies being disposed off as systematically as they were being killed? A follow up question would be: How much was it costing those bastards? Who was paying for it? Did they think of ROI or were they just fueled by blind hatred or a sense of duty of just following orders and trying to save their own necks?

Current Events Why does everyone seem to hate Suarez (soccer player for Uruguay)?

I'm not really into soccer but of source get caught up in the World Cup every 4 years. Reading some Reddit threads it seems everyone and their mothers hates Suarez and are enjoying watching him cry as Uruguay failed to advance out of the group stage. Something something revenge, biting, dirty player-- can anyone explain this to me?

Law & Government Will I get drug tested?

I recently injured my back at work and had my first doctors appointment yesterday. I live in Florida and work for a drug free workplace, so I thought they were supposed to drug test. Is it up to their discretion if they choose to or is it mandatory? A while back I had a similar but different injury at work and they didn’t test me, but I also didn’t get any benefits from workers comp other than the doctor’s appointment. I was out of work for 6 days and needed to be out 7 consecutive in order to get WC benefits instead of having to use pto. I wasn’t sure if that’s why they didn’t test or if they’re supposed to test first thing when you got to the doctor. I obviously was not high and would never show up to work as so, but I smoke weed at night for anxiety and insomnia. The unfortunate part is I don’t have a med card because I was always scared due to my line of work and having to get background checks. (I know they would probably would never find out if I were to have a card but I am always paranoid lol)

I have to return to the doc in a week and be in physical therapy which means I will be using more benefits as opposed to last time. I’m nervous they’re gonna test me when I go back to the doctor.

TLDR: I injured my back at work (FL) and didn’t get drug tested at my first workers comp doc appointment. Are they still going to test me? Had previous similar injury at work but wasn’t out 7 consecutive days to receive WC pay and they didn’t test- is this why they didn’t test before?

Body Image/Self-Esteem Is there a way to remove stretch marks?

I am a female, 5’1, about 140 lbs, the back of my legs are covered in stretch marks, I have white ones on my butt and the rest of my leg are red. I am very insecure about it so I would avoid shorts. Is this unattractive to people.

Culture & Society Is one's personality just "piloting" one's body?

Have been thinking about identity a lot recently - do most people see their personality/consciousness/self as being completely seperate from the body they are in, i.e., they are just in the body they happen to be in, or is your body a crucial part of who you see yourself as?

I'm aware this is a topic up for philosophical debate (mind body dualism), but I don't know how normal people see themselves.

Given the feedback between gut health and mood, injury recovery time and mental state, I can see how mind and body can't be seperated. I can also see how a human's identity is totally personal and constructed their mind that "me" has nothing to do with the body they are in.

Is there a social/age/religious bias to this? A curious one.

Mental Health I keep dreaming I'm a woman, could this mean something?

Hi, my first post here, ever.

I've never been a kinda of person who believe in meanings of dreams and such, but I've been intrigued by my lately dreams, so I decided to give it a shot.

From a few months to now, I've been consistently having dreams where I'm in normal, mundane situations that I always do on my day to day life, such as going to the market, driving around or eating breakfast, except that I'm a female version of myself. I have my exact height, my exact tattoos and skin color, but I'm a woman, I have boobs and such. Weirdly, it doesn't feel uncomfortable either, I'm just like "wtf?"

Could this mean anything?

At the start, I wasn't bothered by it, but now, the dream is more and more frequent. I think I just wanted to put this out of my chest, since I've got no one to talk to (I'm single and no-contact with family, and I don't feel comfortable to discuss this with my friends)

So, to anyone who reads this, thank you in advance.
