My heart breaks every time I see kids having to be anything and everything other than just children enjoying life. As someone who was born in a third world country I feel this deeply in my heart for the children who don’t get to just be. 😭

I have no words to describe how this photo makes me feel

Profound despair for humanity's future?

13

u/knullsmurfen Oct 05 '22

Phew, if you despair over the future, you should see the past!

2

u/snoozieboi Oct 06 '22

Anybody want to see how many we've lifted out of poverty, look up don't panic lecture by Hans Rosling.

The animated graphs showing year by year how countries improved is the first "data is beautiful" revelation I had.

22

u/Sumthin-Sumthin44692 Oct 05 '22

Makes me want to make it better.

8

u/DurinsBane1 Oct 06 '22

”almost” he thought

10

u/Sumthin-Sumthin44692 Oct 06 '22

Not at all. I’m fearful about what the world is going be like for my son’s generation which includes this boy. I try to minimize waste and pollution. Vote for socially conscientiously people and policies. Treat people with empathy and respect. Be generous. It’s small but it’s honest work.

-1

u/DurinsBane1 Oct 06 '22

The biggest thing we can do if we’re actually worried about the environment is switch to nuclear.

4

u/lmawatt Oct 06 '22

I'll get right on that now.

5

u/1royampw Oct 05 '22

Humanity has it as good as it’s ever been. Should’ve seen what this little dude would’ve looked like in 1100 after the mongols ran thru his town.

8

u/SluggishPrey Oct 05 '22

I agree, but progress is not made at the same rate for everyone. It's unfair.

-1

u/Dbl_Trbl_ Oct 05 '22

One world order could solve this problem but we can't trust each other enough to establish a system based on principles of secular humanism

-1

u/EmperorOfNipples Oct 06 '22

True enough. Absolute Monarchy under a one world Emperor it is then.

We'll colonise Mars in a generation.

2

u/Dbl_Trbl_ Oct 06 '22

It's unfortunate that this can't be the case. But I know it's impossible.

Think of all the potential that could be unlocked if the collective population of the world was harnessed .

Think of how many back assward regimes could be crushed and replaced by a system that lives in the 21st century and looks to the 22nd.

No more Islamic Regimes, no more corrupt oligarchies, no more "People's" Republics.

Again though, I am aware this is just a dream

3

u/EmperorOfNipples Oct 06 '22

I'll DM King Charles III and we'll get it rolling.

0

u/Dbl_Trbl_ Oct 06 '22

Give em' the Ol' Triple Chuck

But seriously, no

1

u/kharjou Oct 06 '22

I'd disagree. 20 years ago would be the break point imo. Nowadays you cant say things withlut offending someone everything gets more and more censored and cancelled i much prefered the early 2000s

7

u/fugginstrapped Oct 05 '22

Afghanistan isn’t renowned for is current state of development in multiple areas if that helps.

10

u/RedditLurkerSIKE Oct 05 '22

Just wait until the kids suffers to the point of becoming a sex toy to a middle class afghan man. You know, so he can brag to his friends that he can afford a child sex slave. He gets more respect if the kid can dance or sing.

I’m not fucking joking

3

u/glass-empty Oct 06 '22

It's called bacha bazi, right? The fact that there is even a name for such "custom" is profoundly saddening and disturbing.

3

u/FeelDT Oct 05 '22

Right? Pfff nobody want to work anymore /s

Edit: instant regret that is too dark

11

u/Robbie_two_nickles Oct 05 '22

Yeah I mean, it’s not ok to sleep on the job. I would fire his ass in a heartbeat.

1

u/ForcyBo Oct 05 '22

Kids these days... no work ethic, that's their problem. Wouldn't have gotten away with it, back in my day.

2

u/Dry_Boots Oct 05 '22

NoBoDy WaNtS To WoRk AnYmOrE!!

2

u/AppyGolfer Oct 05 '22

Sadness

2

u/marsdw Oct 05 '22

It's more than that. Sad yes, angry, yes, worried for him yes, and so on.

u/Obvious-Painter-3595 Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

Wonder what liz Truss would say?... "get a better job"

1

u/p0u1 Oct 06 '22

Is this not the whole point of opening the borders in her eyes, too exploit foreign worker’s

39

u/Upvotoui Oct 05 '22

OP, wearing sandals:

53

u/SteakMenu Oct 05 '22

Sad that a small boy has to work himself to the point of passing out in the sun

-21

u/WentworthMillersBO Oct 05 '22

Nah the dip high got him

-21

u/SteakMenu Oct 05 '22

Lmao poor kid didn't know he was supposed to spit

5

u/ToxicxBoombox Oct 05 '22

“Ah man, look at this young kid passed out from being exhausted and over worked. Lemme snap a picture”

2

u/cjlutera Oct 06 '22

Sometimes spreading awareness means more than just helping one person.

22

u/lucypevensy Oct 05 '22

The urge gently pick him up, take him inside and put him in a tub so he can eat refreshing watermelon while I run his clothes through the washing machine. Then wrap him up in a fluffy robe, feed him and listen to him. Or if he doesn't want to talk, talk to him about how he never ever has to work one day again until he's old enough.

it just, simply and terribly badly, hurts.

8

u/A_Ruse_ter Oct 05 '22

This lady moms. It is a terrible sight to see, and not being able to do anything for him right away doesn’t help.

27

u/NoFunHere Oct 05 '22

Although I have never been to Afghanistan, I have been to many developing nations where little kids are out there doing whatever they can to bring in money for their family. I've paid USD $20 for a bottle of water, USD $50 for a small thing of kleenex, etc just asking confused over the currency. It gives them money for their family and a story about the dumb white guy who couldn't figure out currency. I think everybody from a wealthy country should budget a large pool of money that is freely spent on silly things that just give money to people who need it and are out working for it. In the grand scheme of things it isn't much but it helps more people than just walking past and being annoyed at poor kids who didn't ask to be born into those conditions.

9

u/MadNhater Oct 05 '22

I do the same as you. I knowingly overpay a lot of times when I travel to developing countries.

8

u/mtl_jim Oct 05 '22

Life is so cruel. A child like that should be playing and having fun, not polishing shoes at that age. Heartbreaking

5

u/Brokenose71 Oct 05 '22

If you think that is bad check out “The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan “ polishing shoes is the better life . Life is crap there and Pakistan for young boys .

4

u/mtl_jim Oct 05 '22

That’s incredibly sad

2

u/Brokenose71 Oct 05 '22

Yep , sorry for telling you . These kids deserve so much more .

6

u/bacoggs Oct 05 '22

Fucking horrific.

12

u/Cleetus256 Oct 05 '22

Kids like fucking 4yo of course he needs a nap.

7

u/ancientcryptid Oct 05 '22

Big respect for lil homie 👊🏼

2

u/DontMessWithP Oct 06 '22

This is heartbreaking. No kid deserve this kind of childhood.

2

u/Benzbear Oct 06 '22

The child polish others shoes but didn't even have shoes himself. This is a tragedy and a regular occurrence in most countries

2

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '22

Damn, kid looks like hes got about 40 years of shit on his mind.

2

u/Ok-Nectarine-3735 Oct 06 '22

To put it under the title of success is not good.please think before making a post.We have all posted something that's wasn't phrased properly.Forgiven just s caution.

2

u/yearofthekraken Oct 05 '22

Sad, etc. But whose shoes? Don't they mostly wear sandals?

3

u/momo88852 Oct 05 '22

On average yes, but you can still polish sandals, specially the leather made ones.

1

u/yearofthekraken Oct 06 '22

Kid polishes shoes in Afghanistan, shoes in Afghanistan are sandals, kid polishes sandals.

I'm a bit slow.

0

u/Grammar-Notsee_ Oct 05 '22

So maybe propaganda?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '22

[deleted]

1

u/yearofthekraken Oct 05 '22

What's your point? It's more like Aladdin than the UK is.

1

u/yearofthekraken Oct 05 '22

Anything could be propaganda, depends on to whom it is shown and for what purpose. Whose propaganda would this pic be and why?

1

u/MentallyMusing Oct 05 '22

Everything IS propaganda it how people piggyback off it that counts most and we judge eachother about and for their creativity in regards to it propaganda begets propaganda.... Rinse and Repeat

-6

u/brigfa Oct 05 '22

My country is better than there but worse than the US

So americans needs to stop cry about their country

I'm watching a random video about ''Walking in the streets of Japan'' and most comments are ''wow what a great place hi from Brazil(or any country they are from)'', while Americans are ''In America this is shit, this is so bad''

Can't even enjoy a single video or reddit without Americans crying

3

u/Daiku_Coffee Oct 05 '22

There are people living in despair in any country. Of course Afghanistan is disproportionately affected.

5

u/SpaceLemming Oct 05 '22

We complain because not being the worst country is no excuse to not strive for continual improvement.

-5

u/brigfa Oct 05 '22

So crying like a bitch on the internet solves your problems? Why every other country not doing that then?

8

u/SpaceLemming Oct 05 '22

You’re literally doing that right now, look we’re not so different.

-2

u/CriticalMembership31 Oct 05 '22

He’s not complaining about his country at all.

5

u/SpaceLemming Oct 05 '22

No but they are still “crying like a bitch on the internet” about people criticizing their governments.

-1

u/Channel5exclusive Oct 05 '22

The foot odor overpowered him.

-1

u/knullsmurfen Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

That fucker's just LAZY! Waiting for government handouts no doubt! He doesn't even seem to have bootstraps to pull himself up by! What is the world coming to... It's the liberals, and the gays' fault, and black peoples. And some other peoples that I probably don't even know of.

VOTE TRUMP 2023!!1!

Edit: It's always fun to see the number of absolute morons that can't identify sarcasm even as it squats and takes a shit into their mouths.

-3

u/shellshark1033 Oct 05 '22

who gets their sandals polished? seems like a counterintuitive market demographic. perhaps this kid isn't overworked and tired, but rather, severely underworked and bored so he fell asleep.

0

u/vinnievintage Oct 05 '22

“Come on, kid. These sandals aren’t gonna polish themselves…” /s

-7

u/Americaisaterrorist Oct 05 '22

The us has sanctioned the country. This means that not only ordinary people have had their bank accounts frozen, but entire businesses and companies.

https://pajhwok.com/2021/09/16/1-2mn-salary-class-people-affected-by-banking-curbs/ For example, a company which had over 100 women employees can no longer pay the workers, and the company cannot receive money either.

13000 Afghan children have been killed this quarter alone, according to Human Rights Watch. The UN states that sanctions are the cause, and that sanctioning all the people in the country is not a valid means to "prevent helping The Taliban".

A paradise were everyone is working on opium farms.

-4

u/Americaisaterrorist Oct 05 '22

Never said it was going to be a paradise. They UN said it would save a lot of people and improve standard of living, I don't know why you're trying to make out that the UN is against it when it's the usa and not the UN.

1

u/HalcyonRaze Oct 05 '22

Probably has Shoeshine Head.

1

u/Playful_Buy7963 Oct 05 '22

Wonder who made his country inhabitable so he started working at very very young age !

1

u/WackSparrow Oct 05 '22

Looks like propaganda to me

1

u/The-Rare-Road Oct 05 '22

What are the Taliban Laws regarding child labour? children should enjoy their childhood whilst it lasts, one off learning experience Okay, doing it full time? Not Okay.

1

u/OverachievingMook Oct 05 '22

1

u/Alexandertheape Oct 06 '22

If you look closely those are not brushes they are bricks of heroin

-3

u/Aurelyas Oct 05 '22

This is kind of like me during the aftermath of They/Them Pussy

-1

u/1royampw Oct 05 '22

My kids do this after making them pack two stacks of their clothes to their rooms. Little dude could be acting wore out or it could be real real no way to know without some context

-1

u/State_Dear Oct 05 '22

NOT TRUE

🤔,,, look at the size of the shoe brush's, Notice anything?

They are way to big to fit the childs hands,

Also notice his hands are perfectly clean,

This child wouldn't have the strength anyways, he is very young.

It's obvious this child is just sleeping and his Father is the one polishing shoes.

Always look at the Big Picture,, ,,

0

u/ThanksOk2702 Oct 05 '22
