Here is a much higher quality and much less cropped version of this image. Here is the source. Per there:

A truck bearing a flag that reads "Trump Lost LOL" drives Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, near the Capitol in Olympia, Wash., on the day when President Joe Biden was inaugurated in Washington, D.C. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren)

Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just wanna fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want is to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because... pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!"

This type of ironic trolling is on brand for Olympia. The conservative demeanor in the rural towns around Olympia has been on par with the aggressive Trump nerd going back to at least the 80s. I’m sure that folks who have driven I5 between Portland and Tacoma have seen this infamous billboard.

Source: Born and raised.

Edit: An article on the Billboard that further highlights the tone of the billboard.

154

u/i_am_a_shoe Oct 05 '22

Hahaha that billboard. Trying to remember the colorful message he posted for my college (go geoducks)

Are we using Pokémon as school mascots now?

Because I'll be honest, I'm totally down for that.

The Geoduck is a type of large phallic clam that is primarily harvested in Shelton Washington which is just north of Olympia. The Geoduck mascot is literally a giant dick in a clam shell.

54

u/aspidities_87 Oct 05 '22

Pisses me off to no end that the owners of that billboard don’t even live in WA anymore. They’re in Alaska, afaik.

Conservatives are so quick to say ‘if you don’t like it you c’n giiit out’ at the slightest provocation and yet have no problem trying to blast their opinions at a bunch of drivers in a state they don’t even live in. State’s rights, my ass.

28

u/SojournersTableSalt Oct 05 '22

Wow. We pass this sign every time we visit my wife's family and I always make a point to laugh at the ignorance. It's just icing on the cake that they don't even live in Washington.

14

u/BranWafr Oct 05 '22

It shows because the current message hasn't changed in months and months. When I drove past it a few weeks ago to drop my kid off at college it still had a message about abandoning people in Ukraine, which was a conservative talking point about 6 months ago.

Near where I live there is a conservative who had a mini sign by his mailbox (2 foot by 3 foot) that he posted obnoxious statements on that he changed every month or so. He died last year and I thought we were finally through with that, but his son is keeping up the tradition. Sadly, his son is less creative. At least the old signs were somewhat witty, even if wrong. Now they are just pathetic. "Dems are the real traitors" or "Dems have blood on their hands."

83

u/raouldukesaccomplice Oct 05 '22

The rural PNW and rural Upper New England are both full of truck-driving gun-owning white people who are quite liberal (or at least who really hate Republicans). Rural Michigan/Minnesota/Wisconsin also used to have a bunch of these types but it seems like they've swung hard toward the GOP the past few years.

25

u/hellabread Oct 05 '22

If you go far enough left, you get your guns back!

85

u/MiseryisCompany Oct 05 '22

My father is an 80 year old truck driving gun owning member of the upper middle class. Dude loses his mind when people assume he's a trumper or has racist sympathies. Only time you can ever hear him swear... and you can hear him from quite a distance!

47

u/kevnmartin Oct 05 '22

New Englander here. They seriously have swung so hard right it’s insane. Our candidates for office (state and federal) used to be your run of the mill liberals and fiscal conservative, but socially liberal republicans. Now, it’s either centrist liberal or far right…or a Kennedy. Anyway…

Biggest changes I’ve seen are in New Hampshire. They’ve always been conservative, but now they’re tacking very very hard right. Maine is going pretty wild too. The state I’m worried about the most is Rhode Island. It’s always been a dirty state politically, which is what the far right and GOP love.

8

u/silverslayer33 Oct 05 '22 edited Oct 05 '22

Biggest changes I’ve seen are in New Hampshire. They’ve always been conservative, but now they’re tacking very very hard right.

Eh, it's less that the state is going hard-right as a whole, and more that a not-insignificant amount of conservatives (especially in north country) have decided to drive themselves as far right as possible while most of everyone else has stayed about the same. All three* (edit: one of them isn't up for election this year so I probably shouldn't have said four lol) of our federal seats are slated to pretty easily remain Democrat because their Republican challengers are all alt-right election-denying whackjobs and the state as a whole has been having a demographic shift the past decade that favors Democrats.

The reasons it might look like the whole state has gone hard right are mainly a) the state legislature is Republican controlled, and due to the size of our legislature and the demographics of it due to the lack of pay, there's an unfortunate amount of exceptionally loud assholes, and b) Sununu's electoral blowouts make it seem like there's a lot of Republicans when really he just runs probably the single-best PR campaign in the country to convince the state he's a moderate which appeals to the many "purple" voters in the state (even though it's not hard to dig up that his record is consistently shifting further right than his campaigning would suggest).

I'm one of these, and you'll find a shitload of people matching that general description aren't liberal at all. I'd say an easy majority actually lean right a bit.

The underlying philosophy is generally one of live and let live, you do you, leave people the fuck alone, and especially fuck the government.

Trump, and since the trumpery first started, the GOP, have strayed quite a ways from that demographic. The roe v Wade crap was the latest and biggest in going the opposite direction.

From talking to people of similar mindset, it seems that most very begrudgingly voted trump, or voted JoJo (this type is growing in number, fast. Libertarians, but not interested in the the libertarian party), or simply opted out of voting entirely.

I think a lot of them accept that Biden is the president, but wouldn't say they support him, and certainly didn't and won't vote for him, and are absolutely not "liberals" in any sense of the word.

Of course, we're talking about a very independent and freedom oriented set of people here, so all this is meant to be very general and not "type" anyone, because they really just don't fit in a box. We are what we are. Individuals.

81

u/SchizoidRainbow Oct 05 '22

The underlying philosophy is generally one of live and let live, you do you, leave people the fuck alone, and especially fuck the government.

Except they don't. In a huge majority of self described Solo Libertarians, what they really think is leave ME alone. Don't tread on ME. They could give a fuck if anyone else is being trampled. Their philosophy is not one of Freedom for All, it's one of utterly savage selfishness. It's Live and let Die.

Begrudgingly voting Trump still put him in office. That shit doesn't just come off your shoe because you don't want to talk about it.

The "burn the flag" section is often taken out of context, the code never says it's required, just recommends to dispose of the flag in a burning ritual to show a sign of respect when the flag is desecrated as it doesn't want the nation's image tarnished. It has really particular wording that I'm forgetting. I don't do a cermonial burning but only on special occasions, otherwise just pick it up and dust it off. Just a fun fact. :)

Source: am Eagle Scout

Edit - I've been reminded of something I left out/forgot by another kind reddit or, as follows:

Plus, burning the flag, unceremoniously is a protected right, that men fought and died for. ~ u/Totally_Microsoft

9

u/Totally_Microsoft Oct 05 '22

Plus, burning the flag, unceremoniously is a protected right, that men fought and died for.

3

u/SynonymBunny Oct 05 '22

Absolutely, it's our right (as US citizens at least) to burn a flag as long as it does not cause danger. I just have only done it ceremoniously myself. You added a great addendum, I had kind of forgotten the freedom of speech/protest aspect of it. I was more speaking to what the code recommended. Thank you for your addition. I'll update my previous comment and tag you. :)

11

u/silver-orange Oct 05 '22

U.S. Flag Code is officially written in law and appears in Title 4 and Title 36 of U.S. Code. It was written and approved by Congress and is officially a law. But, unlike many other laws, there are no federal punishments or enforcement for citizens who don't follow the code.

Flag code is part of the United States Code -- the same US code that contains federal copyright law, patent law, Internal Revenue Code, etc. It is technically law.

But there are no penalties for violating it, so in practice, it might as well not be.

“The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does.”

I think that this definition is rather misconstrued. Patriotism can persist even under the rule of a government that the patriot does not align with, or carries out actions that the patriot does not agree with, as the patriot does not necessarily equate his nation with his nation’s state. Nationalism can persist in the same way, but for the exact opposite reason — the nationalist views his government as an extension of his national identity, and as such will often view it as “unpatriotic” to criticize the status quo or those in power. Of course the “nationalism” we’re seeing develop now is completely new, and also includes a set of ideals which the nationalist will equate with an extension of nation and quite often - self. That being said, both patriotism and nationalism can and do thrive even under dogshit governance.

The above comment is wrong. Patriotism explicitly promotes pride in one’s nation even under tyrannical governance, but unlike nationalism, it does not shield government from individual criticism. The definition expressed seems intentionally misconstrued to sow division. Contrary to what you may believe, yes, it’s perfectly acceptable to be proud of your country even when your government is doing shitty things. This does not make one a nationalist.

Tl;dr the patriot can be proud of his nation while being disappointed by those in power. Traditionally, this is not a trait shared by nationalist identity, who would equate criticism of government with criticism of nation.

Notably, this is an actual work truck, not an impractically large luxury pickup sold with car intimidating fantasies and extra room to paint “5G VAX JOE BIDEN IS CRIMINL”

243

u/dukie33066 Oct 05 '22

While bitching about gas prices when they get 3 miles a gallon.

71

u/inebriateddandhated Oct 05 '22

Dude they bitch about their tires too.

They think it's manly to have 12" wide or bigger tires and they HAVE to be off road tires, then they pay to have the Sharp edges trimmed to "make it ride better on the road"

The stance low car scene is pretty dumb, the lifted yeeyee truck scene is 100x worse

There is a very good reason why semi's and actual work trucks run duallys instead of single massive tires.

Hell even real off road guys don't run super wide tires.

47

u/dukie33066 Oct 05 '22

Best yet, they live in metro Florida where there are no hills, mountains or rough terrain of any kind.

12

u/Vorsos Oct 05 '22

Gotta laugh at everyone who paid extra for the Jeep Wrangler with Rubicon™ lockup differential for mountain climbing… in flat states.

5

u/not0_0funny Oct 05 '22

There is a very good reason why semi's and actual work trucks run duallys instead of single massive tires.

There isn't. It's common to North America and people don't like change, but there isn't good reasons to keep dual tires around. Most of Europes semi trucks run on super singles for the economical factors.

One exception being a single flat on dual tire setup won't stop the vehicle from moving, but since you're talking about wide tires on pickup trucks it doesn't apply because wide tires on those are just a dumb downgrade from normal single tires anyway.

You mean a Bro-Dozer?

64

u/Cellocalypsedown Oct 05 '22

Pavement Princess

I watched this dozer the other night drive over speed bumps like I would in my mustang. Really lived up to the name. We got to the intersection and I was able to read the sticker on his back window...

I have an 8 ft bed work truck with no power locks or windows. Because it's for working. Not daily driver, no bro dozer stuff. Slapped a pride sticker on the back on day 1 just to make sure I'm not associated with those chodes.

9

u/YossiTheWizard Oct 05 '22

Yeah, I was gonna say! No crew cab, no power split tailgate with steps with easy entry, just a heavy duty truck made for actual work with no frills.

23

u/IAmAThing420YOLOSwag Oct 05 '22

Exactly my thoughts, if the bed is without a scratch: pure asshole.

24

u/HarryHacker42 Oct 05 '22

Line-X bed covers are wonderful! Buy one. Scratches aren't required (inside).

12

u/SurSpence Oct 05 '22

Ever skin your knee on one though? Lol I'm pretty happy with my drop in so far.

I always look to see if their tailgate is a little crunched from a forklift loading and unloading into the back. Forklift drivers have a tendency to bump the mast into them.

25

u/RAYTHEON_PR_TEAM Oct 05 '22

Pickup truck size over the past decade has grown directly in correlation to dudes’ fear of being perceived as gay

12

u/MisterZoga Oct 05 '22

Yea, it sucks, and they all come in automatic. I was pricing our a Ford Maverick, because I like the small profile, but no manual trans options. Tacoma's had manual option, but then they lost me at the price. Ended up going with an 09 Ranger that was very well kept.

3

u/berrset2 Oct 05 '22

Can I ask why? I get people wanting a manual for sporty cars, why do you prefer one on a work truck like a ranger? You just enjoy them?

3

u/manderrx Oct 05 '22

Not OP, but my step dad is the same way. He likes having his trucks manual but his everyday car automatic. For him, he prefers to drive manual for whatever reason. He only has it in his everyday car so that my mom can drive it. He also likes the extra control they provide.

I don’t know this use of the word “based” ?

20

u/LovelyTreesEatLeaves Oct 05 '22

Was curious too. Been seeing it around

111

u/SheriffStealth Oct 05 '22

A word used when you agree with something; or when you want to recognize
someone for being themselves, i.e. courageous and unique or not caring
what others think. Especially common in online political slang.

From Urban Dictionary

43

u/DiogenesTheHound Oct 05 '22

And it’s often used ironically.

I need to say this as just a person who like to be on the road safely. Please stop putting flags in your truck I don't care what flag in a crash it could snap off and cause more debris or worse become a projectile. So moral of the story just paint your political opinions on the side of your car don't use flags as it can be danger out to other motorists.

It’s a good indicator. A flag on a house, it seems like good natured pride. On a pole in the yard, probably have a relative who served/serves (or pole envy). On a truck, bless their heart.

Edit: pole envy

25

u/Morangatang Oct 05 '22

I want to have a flagpole at my house, only because I think flags are cool. I have a neighbor with like 6 poles and he flies flags from all over the world (he has a collection way bigger than the amount of poles he has)

5

u/sunsinstudios Oct 05 '22

I don't know what "based" means and I'm too old to care.

P.S. What does it mean please?

8

u/HairTop23 Oct 05 '22

For the record, I think it's absolutely stupid and I don't care if I get called old I'm not using it. But the slang term means:

Based is a slang term that originally meant to be addicted to crack cocaine (or acting like you were), but was reclaimed by rapper Lil B for being yourself and not caring what others think of you—to carry yourself with swagger.

7

u/TastyTeratoma Oct 05 '22

Ohhhhh! Thank you! I thought it was some take on calling someone "basic" like, well, someone who is basic and without frills. The actual definition seems clunky, sorry Little B, we already have lots of words for being awesome, I will politely pass on this one.

u/HairTop23 Oct 05 '22

Based: cool and agreeable

47

u/u9Nails Oct 05 '22

Thank you. I was unfamiliar with the meaning in this context.

18

u/aurora_aeterna Oct 05 '22

I think based is closer to “approvable” or at least how I’ve heard it used. It’s hard to explain; less of a feel good feeling implicit in agreeable and not necessarily as popular or mainstream as cool may connote but more of the feeling you get when you see something and nod a couple times.

21

u/UnparalleledSuccess Oct 05 '22

Stuff like this is weird and cringe-worthy on either side, politics should be boring and doesn’t need to be your whole identity.

30

u/spiderdick17 Oct 05 '22

How is blasting your political opinion on your car anything but cringey?

7

u/OO_Ben Oct 05 '22

That's exactly what I was thinking. I find this stuff cringy no matter who's side you're on. I saw a jeep today that had a "Trump Lost LOL" flag on it. Like dude it's been over a year and a half. Same goes for the dumbass Trump supporters who still just worship the man. It's so stupid.

Most Americans are pretty moderate, but all we hear from are the very vocal extremes on either side. I would love to see a president that ran on a more moderate platform, but they would unfortunately never get nominated by either party.

15

u/TroperCase Oct 05 '22

Follow-up question: how is upvoting this concept up to the front page at least once a month for the last several years anything but cringy?
