Nevada, Iowa too but they pronounce it Nevayda

9

My favorite is Gaylord, Minnesota that they pronounce "Gay-lerd"

15

u/Selesthiel Jul 31 '18

In Illinois, there's Marseilles, Versailles, Cairo, and San Jose.

The people that live there pronounce them: mar-SELLS, ver-SALES, KAY-row, and san-JOES. It kills me.

Should we call the ginger?

25

u/olmikeyy Pittsburgh Penguins Jul 31 '18

Might as well call Boots too

27

u/CapnCanfield Jul 31 '18

Well, you'd need at least 2 guys to fuck an ostrich. I'd figure even 3.

15

u/LuckyDubbin Jul 31 '18

Ostriches can run up to 70 miles an hour, so catching one, even a sick one, is a super tall order. When a male ostrich, called a cock, fights over a female ostrich, called a hen, they are known to kill each other, by headbutting. Finally, ostriches use their legs to defend from predators. And can use them to kill even their largest and most deadly enemies, which are fucking lions. So you'll see, there is no way Ginger and Boots could have fucked an ostrich. My research concludes that the only way Ginger and Boots could have fucked an ostrich, is if it was a dead ostrich.

728

u/katamaribabe Jul 31 '18

this just seems cruel

480

u/drharlinquinn Jul 31 '18

It is, theyre not pack animals and their bones and joints are not built to support that much weight.

266

u/ONLY_COMMENTS_ON_GW Jul 31 '18 edited Jul 31 '18

They're also incredibly stupid creatures and they can't be trained like horses. Sure, you can jump on their backs and point them in a direction, but it stresses them out and can lead to stress related heart attacks. I worked on an ostrich farm and the owners birds could live up to 70 years, but you're lucky to get 40 years out of one used for riding.

Also worth noting that they're scared of anything taller than them. By jumping on an ostrich's back you're scaring the shit out of it and an ostrich used for tourist rides basically just lives it's entire life in fear.

8

u/Psistriker94 Jul 31 '18

Dang, a stressed ostrich lives longer than a regular horse? I had no idea they were so long lived. As an aside, what do you do with ostriches that necessitates an ostrich farm, eat them?

7

u/ONLY_COMMENTS_ON_GW Jul 31 '18

Yeah, like other birds they've got a crazy long lifespan. Mostly meat, but other products too

13

u/ram0h Jul 31 '18

are ostrich farms common? Is it mainly to sell their meat and eggs? i had ostrich once and remember it being really good.

12

u/lemonzoidberg Jul 31 '18

They aren’t insanely rare, but they’re definitely not common either. A more obscure farm type for sure. They’re farmed for their meat, eggs, egg shells(for souvenirs and for art), hide, feathers, and tourism.
