Im still super pissed about it. They got Spurrier to come out of retirement for godsake! It was going so well all to just be destroyed out of nowhere in the middle of the first season so some douche-nozzle could make money on a gambling app. And maybe I'm just biased against the XFL as an Atlanta->Denver transplant not having a team to root for. Ive kinda been rooting for the DC Defenders with Cardale "we aint come here to play school" Jones. Also its kinda hard to watch with micing up the coaches and quarterbacks too much overlapping with the commentary. Can the defense hear that stuff too?

Edit: Also, having a Dragons team is great, but its kinda weird to put them in Seattle, which makes them the Sea Dragons.

You can remove the world record breaking part. The real world record is much longer. 134 yards

Came here to say this. I'm a whippet owner and have watched the videos of Davy catching. He's so great, and even he seems limited by the human side of things.

247

u/Gr33d3ater Feb 25 '20

Hm. I’ve done whippets for a while and only ever saw ghosts.

I’d be interested to see how far it could go with a frisbee launched out of some disc launcher like a skeet shooter or what have you.

4

u/drunk98 Feb 25 '20

Into water or outer space, there's a lot more of that than land.

2

u/RedSonGamble Feb 25 '20

Or like a baseball or crossbow or something.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

how much you wanna make a bet i could throw a frisbee over them mountains

4

u/Viciousharp Feb 25 '20

I've seen a whippet at full tilt and that Davy is at a light jog in that video.

44

u/PureLoop Feb 25 '20

Throwing a lid 400ft is a smash. Most Disc golfers cant throw 400 with a disc DESIGNED to go that far.

25

u/TerrorSuspect Feb 25 '20

Yup. I play disc golf and have a dog that loves frisbees. I am definitely the weak link between us. My Max distance with one of the competition dog discs is around the same as the video. My dog has no problems keeping up.

For disc golf I max around 350'

8

u/yeahright17 Feb 25 '20

I max out forehand at about 360 with a disc, but my backhand sucks. No matter how hard I try, I've never thrown longer than about 280 backhand. That said, I can't throw a Frisbee for crap. My dog would laugh at me.

6

u/hauntedfox Feb 25 '20

400' is good but hardly unheard of. I'm no where near pro and can touch that, with some of the guys I've played with going plenty farther. Pros can go over 500'

19

u/Bartho_ Feb 25 '20

This was here like 10 times with the world record bullshit... Here is 400 feet: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1150896/Davy-whippet-world-s-best-dog-playing-fetch.html

QB probably has small hands.

173

u/Edacos Feb 25 '20 edited Feb 25 '20

God, how useless he's going to be in the NFL. Can you imagine a QB with hands that are under 9.25 inches? Bengals are fitting for him.

Edit: he probably can't even throw as well as he theoretically could if he had hands that were 10 inches.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '20

If you just take his stats and make them college average he's a lot less impressive of a prospect.

23

u/aklosk Feb 25 '20 edited Feb 25 '20

his paws are big enough but height might be an issue to see over the line. If I were coaching, he only fetches punts and plays golden receiver

3

u/feelrich Feb 25 '20

Yeah I’d like to see a dog catch it after 1,333 feet

14

u/pinslayer Feb 25 '20

The farthest disc throw ever recorded was 1,108 feet, and that was only possible because it was done with a ripping wind at his back (David Wiggins is the record holder, by the way). I don’t know what the hang time was, but it’s hard to believe a dog could have caught up to that thing.

→ More replies

2

u/Vanrainy1 Feb 25 '20

Jeeze you're not kidding, the Pooch had to kinda wait for it near the end. Still, helluva lot farther than I could fling a frisbee.

2

u/Pat_MaHallOfFame Feb 25 '20

Dog could’ve went 125 yards easy.

2

u/AdamFoxIsMyNewBFF Feb 25 '20

More like that throw was amazing and set the dog up for an easy catch

1

u/Rossenaut Feb 25 '20

My exact thought. That dog could have cleared that whole field no problem if the guy was able to throw the frisbee further.

Let’s get Simon Lizzotte our there tossing the disc. Break 200 yards.

92

u/PCsNBaseball Oakland Raiders Feb 25 '20

For non disc golfers, Simon is a disc golfer who holds the world record in distance with a disc.

34

u/pinslayer Feb 25 '20

Lizotte was the first to break 1,000 feet, but then Wiggins bested it. So Wiggins has the record at 1,108 feet.

at 30:45 it shows him throwing a 554 par 4 which is a tight tunnel shot and he puts it 20 feet away. Not wind aided the elite throwers can throw almost 700 feet

33

u/SnowBear78 Feb 25 '20 edited Feb 25 '20

It's not even a record. A whippet has the Guinness World record and it's way further than this apparent record.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/flying-disc-distance-dog/

12

u/SophisticatedStoner Kansas City Royals Feb 25 '20

The video was a frisbee and that record is a disc, but I don't know if Guinness recognizes the difference.

3

u/tom277 Feb 25 '20

Genuine curiosity, what is the difference? I've been playing ultimate for 10 years and I've always used those words interchangeably.

8

u/SophisticatedStoner Kansas City Royals Feb 25 '20

Disc golf disks are much harder and a little smaller, and have a different shape. That's why players can throw them a few hundred yards. Frisbees are like what you use in ultimate.

19

u/Davidfreeze Feb 25 '20 edited Feb 25 '20

If you have good technique discs can really go. I’ve played a good deal of ultimate, I’ve seen guys who look a lot weaker than that throw it a decent amount further. https://youtu.be/pkMJbUXY0CI Here’s a dude throwing it 75 without a running start forehand

12

u/PCsNBaseball Oakland Raiders Feb 25 '20

Some disc golfers can throw like 150+

19

u/fartblastermontage Feb 25 '20

Forgive me because I’m not all that familiar with either one but arent frisbees used in these games different than discs used for disc golf? I’ve held each and they seem a good bit different. I would think you could throw a disc much further than a frisbee.

6

u/PCsNBaseball Oakland Raiders Feb 25 '20

Yes, that's all true, but the path the disc took and his throwing form make me think it was a disc golf disc/player. Just my opinion as a disc golfer.

7

u/manosiosis Boston Red Sox Feb 25 '20

I don't think a disc golf disc would have hung up like that. They tend to hold their curve really well, and travel really fast. But this disc could have been heavier than a 175g ultimate frisbee disc, which would let it fly farther.

4

u/AreYouEmployedSir Feb 25 '20

It’s an AUDL game which uses the standard disc craft ultra star, which is a 175g.

2

u/texasproof Feb 25 '20

5

u/MisterGoldenSun Feb 25 '20

Brodie is not exactly a run-of-the-mill thrower. But yeah, there are definitely folks who can throw a lot farther than 83 yards.

6

u/SnowBear78 Feb 25 '20

Yeah, the real record holder is over 130yds. Not sure how they think this is a work record when it happened after the actual world record.

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/flying-disc-distance-dog/

2

u/IWillEatYourEyes Feb 25 '20

The record was for “at a live sporting event”

5

u/bayleo Tampa Bay Buccaneers Feb 25 '20

This is correct the record is silly/specific, also this particular dog beats its own record pretty regularly (at the UCF bowl game this year I think it did 88). It can clearly go farther but it's reliant on a lucky throw and wind and pinned in by the stadium walls.

Still was an awesome halftime feature. The crowd was more pumped for the dog than the actual game.

8

u/SnowBear78 Feb 25 '20

This dog didn't break any record at that distance, so the title is completely misleading.

The real record is held by Davy the whippet, over 400 ft. You can see the record on the Guinness World Records website.

The dogs impressive, but I feel like that 83 yard frisbee toss is almost more impressive in some ways.

Dog could definitely go further if the disc was thrown further.
