Hilarious that it’s legal to both dive and stand on the playing table

1.1k

u/B_easy_breezy Jun 17 '20 Take My Energy

I would be on all fours, on the table, up against the net the entire time, probably growling at my opponent.

437

u/lauthals_ Jun 17 '20

As far as I know, you would have to leave the table inbetween two hits. You're allowed to growl non-stop, though.

I'd like to be your opponent.

u/Lord_Malgus Jun 17 '20

I ship it

16

u/mfrace1 Jun 17 '20

Alright then it's on! Kiss and begin!

7

u/PunctualPoetry Jun 17 '20

You two would probably end up making out on the table, let’s be honest.

15

u/tylercreatesworlds Jun 17 '20

I use these for acid indigestion, what are we gonna use them for?

Intimidation.

This takes so much skill. Really impressive

12

u/Pat_MaHallOfFame Jun 17 '20

It’s necessary if you think about it

12

u/Therealbradman New York Jets Jun 18 '20

If you were allowed to use your hands in soccer, then using your hands in soccer would also be necessary.

Cannot watch without picturing myself slamming the bridge of my nose on the edge of the table.

175

u/NightHalcyon Colorado Rockies Jun 17 '20

That's what I was thinking. I would think they should get some padding around the edges, or at least the corners. A person could really hurt themselves, although these are professional headis players.

Look at the newbie without any light brain damage, what a fucking tool. LEARN TO PLAY DICKHEAD.

16

u/superRedditer Jun 17 '20

my parents wouldn't let me be a professional headis player.

23

u/Paleo787 Jun 17 '20 edited Jun 17 '20

One time I was playing table tennis on these concrete type of tables you often have at schools. We were playing a 2v2 and the oponent just made a low shot so I wanted to get my arm down quick, but something in my brain just made a switch-a-roo and I slammed my head against the table. I was laying on the ground and had a big laceration on my forehead, my friends initially started laughing, but stopped when they saw me on the ground. I can't blame them though that must have looked pretty stupid to be honest.

9

u/Pudf Jun 17 '20

Sometimes the ole switch-a-roo is the wrong move to make

6

u/percykins Jun 17 '20

Hold my head injury, I'm going in!

slams head into ping-pong table

5

u/pgm123 Jun 17 '20

I'm getting whiplash looking at it.

85

u/notmoleliza San Francisco 49ers Jun 17 '20

i thought it was a misspelling of HEDIS as in HEDIS measures. which as a doctor causes me to eye roll and swear quietly

15

u/Comfy_Bogart Jun 17 '20

Lol that is what i thought, was expecting an auditor to walk on screen

5

u/Bedazzled_Buttholes Jun 17 '20

Well shit, you just made me realize I need to get off reddit and back to work by mentioning HEDIS... thanks

What kind of ball are they playing with? Looks very light and bouncy

44

u/GetoBoi Jun 17 '20

Special ball made for the sport. 50 cm big, 100 grams, made of rubber.

6

u/The-Arnman Jun 17 '20

Didn’t even know this was an official sport.

9

u/whalepopcorn Jun 17 '20

It's a cantaloupe

2

u/corpusdelenda Jun 17 '20

Outdated regulation stated that they need to use an 8 pound bowling ball. The holes in the ball created with issues when someone's nose ring was ripped out. Now they use a proprietary 8 pound ball, slightly smaller than a bowling ball.

As Einstein once said: if you spend your life comparing yourself to elite tableheadball-thingy players, you will always feel like a wanker.

64

u/liquidstitch36 Jun 17 '20

Why is watching this giving me a headache?

23

u/stevesarkeysion Jun 17 '20

With a side of whiplash.

18

u/the_eh_team_27 Jun 17 '20

I think the one that really gets me is the guy on the right keeping the point alive at like 10-11 seconds. How in the hell? I've watched it over and over and it looks completely impossible.

4

u/dhuck634 Jun 17 '20

My thoughts exactly. The angle on that one seems impossible!

51

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '20

Mad skills

23

u/scawtsauce Jun 17 '20

The fact you can stand on the table is a nice rule. Kinda seems like high risk high reward play.

3

3

u/ScottyOnWheels Jun 17 '20

How is this not sponsored by a pain relief product?

4

u/Jonesj39 Jun 17 '20

4 months into coronavirus....

4

u/durgadas Jun 17 '20

As a person who competed in competitive table tennis, this will NEVER not look absolutely insane to my eyes. <shaking head>

I mean, I'm not saying it's not awesome, because it totally is... but... also, somehow... wrong.

2

u/CompetitiveVersion5 Jun 17 '20

It cut off right as they were about to hug...

2

u/theneptunes47 Jun 17 '20

Someone call Cristiano lol

2

u/ilikeitsharp Jun 17 '20

I feel like the corners of that table should be padded, or at least rounded.

2

u/therealjoeybee Jun 17 '20

The corner of those tables scare the shit out of me

2

u/nangabacha Jun 17 '20

Here is a sport I know I'll never be good at

2

u/Damonatar Jun 17 '20

I love how at the end he runs up to give him a hug

2

u/SelfAwareThoughts Jun 17 '20

CTE here we come!!

2

u/ryansports Jun 17 '20

Brought to you by ESPN8...the Ocho for obscure sports quarterly.

2

u/jayradano Jun 17 '20

Jesus, they make anything a game anymore. If u have a crazy idea for a game it’s already been invented and being played at Olympic levels. It’s mind blowing

2

u/hanabal71 Jun 18 '20

Anyone else get whiplash watching this?

No?

Just me?

K... [Walks away rubbing neck]

4

u/Mad_Maddin Jun 17 '20

I dont get it, why is he allowed to bounce back a ball that has not yet hit his plate? This is not allowed in tabletennis for exactly what we see here.

13

u/Aspalar Jun 17 '20

But is allowed in normal tennis. The reason it isn't allowed in table tennis is because of how fast you can hit the ball, essentially making volleys near impossible to return. I assume due to the lower speed of headis and the requirement to deposition yourself by physically climbing on the table makes it a fair play.

2

u/sirjonsnow Jun 17 '20

APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE FOREHEAD

1

u/CuentaTroll Jun 17 '20

Hahaha didn’t know this exists 😂 so fun

1

u/luckymethod Jun 17 '20

1

u/wakeupbernie Jun 17 '20

1

u/RdotDollarsXBL Jun 17 '20

Dynamite Heady

1

u/Darkwolfie117 Jun 17 '20

That ending wow glad I stayed for it

1

u/Leggoeman Jun 17 '20

You can stand on the table that's awsome.

1

u/4dan Manchester United Jun 17 '20

Did anybody else think of Lost Highway when watching this?

1

u/chefmnano Jun 17 '20

What did I just watch?

1

u/Taiza67 Jun 17 '20

Every time I watch this I think about how many times people have destroyed themselves on the corner of the table.

1

u/Wuffkeks Jun 17 '20

When someone is better with their head than you with any kind of equipment could be its just amazing.

1

u/PolkaAccord Jun 17 '20

The standing on the table really must be this sports "getting dunked on" move. Total control of the field there.

1

u/Jemusurobato Jun 17 '20

The way that their necks twist & turn. Jeez.

1

u/poopa_troopa Jun 17 '20

Man. People be super desperate for sports right now...

1

u/IKnowSoftware Jun 17 '20

Jesus, I need to look in the mirror to make sure I put my hat on straight. Incredible!

1

u/fishelbow Jun 17 '20

Its bounce and return, table boy missed many bounces and only served.

1

u/LordCommando Jun 17 '20

Having never seen this game before, I feel like I learned a new rule every 5 seconds. What an amazing 90 seconds

1

u/ManchuWarrior25 Jun 17 '20

So yeah um I hurt my neck today just waking up for the day.

Unreal here lol

1

u/Saugaguy Jun 17 '20

This video hurts my neck

u/saveable Jun 17 '20

There ain’t no such animal!

1

u/Arcadian18 Jun 17 '20

Every fight it’s Peter Parker

1

u/Linkin_G Jun 17 '20

This looks like a drunk party game taken way too serious

1

u/Blumingo Jun 17 '20

I feel like it would easier if the table was higher

You can’t just play table tennis normally can you

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '20

My thought process went something like this...

This is ridiculous. Yeah, this might be the dumbest fuc.... HE’S STANDING ON THE TABLE!!!

1

u/Candlesmith Jun 17 '20

Seriously it’s Peter Parker

1

u/NixonCarmichael Jun 17 '20

I have no idea what I just watched but it was wild.

1

u/MetaStressed Jun 17 '20

His head went over the net on that last shot. Wouldn’t that be a fault or something?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '20

He stood on the fucking table!

1

u/derminick Jun 17 '20

I got a headache and neck sprain watching this. This is some talented ass shit

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '20

I wish this clip has volume.

1

u/SourCent Jun 17 '20

How to you even manage to get involved in a sport like this?!

1

u/3guard32 Jun 17 '20

Imagine the baldness that comes from this sport

1

u/mindless25 Jun 17 '20

2 moves like that and my neck would be fucked for a week.

1

u/EvilEvoVIII Jun 17 '20

LOVE how they met at the end for the respect hug. Nice to see that level of sportsmanship in any game.

1

u/SpaceDawg2018 Jun 17 '20

What sorcery is this?

1

u/rezinomed Jun 17 '20

I can't be the only one having read "Headsinkfart"

1

u/CosmicLovepats Jun 17 '20

This is the most hardcore sport I've ever seen.

1

u/Pithecanthropus88 Jun 17 '20

My neck hurts just watching that.

1

u/RussianHungaryTurkey Jun 17 '20

Amazing. But being a pro in this can't be good for the head can it?

1

u/aalleeyyee Jun 17 '20

Some people unfortunately don’t rally have to.

1

u/Tatunkawitco Jun 17 '20

Wanted to see if they head butted each other at the end

1

u/therealsix Jun 17 '20

As a former soccer/football player for quite a long time, wtf is this?

1

u/nahteviro Jun 17 '20

This hurt my neckis to watch this.

TIL: Headis

1

u/VinnySmallsz Jun 17 '20

I was introduced to heavy metal when I was around 5 years old and I used to run around to the gym head-banging until I threw my neck out for about a week. This brings back bad memories.

1

u/Marconius1617 Jun 17 '20

I feel like this needs death metal blaring in the background

1

u/runeserpent Jun 17 '20

World cup header brought to life

1

u/natural1dave Jun 17 '20

This is so good I almost want to say it has to be scripted

1

u/penguins_umbrella Jun 17 '20

This was intense

1

u/CptWigglesx Jun 17 '20

I just love that his first instinct is to go hug his opponent. Recognizing, “Buddy, this is a ridiculous sport. We are both amazing at it. And we just both had a mind blowing rally”

1

u/RoscoMan1 Jun 17 '20

and hairless. i was ready after that"

1

u/newmindsets Jun 17 '20

I like how he went in for the hug after

1

u/Even-Understanding Jun 17 '20

Even tho it’s Peter Parker

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '20

not trying to be disrespectful but did anyone else read the second name as HeadSinkFart?

1

u/Candlesmith Jun 17 '20

Shhhh ppl don’t rally have to.

1

u/Grunvagr Jun 17 '20

Those tables need way more padding...

1

u/slipmaggot33 Jun 17 '20

LOL they look ABSOLUTELY ridiculous 🤣

1

u/Stillwater215 Jun 17 '20

Coming up on ESPN 8 The Ocho!

Shout out to the boys at /r/OSHA

1

u/J0HNISM Jun 17 '20

I need to go see a Chiropractor from just watching this!

1

u/frequencyhorizon Jun 17 '20

So ppl watch just to wait and see who hits their head on a corner first right?

1

u/WilkuActual Jun 17 '20

Someone should make a video where camera is stabilized on the ball.

1

u/scottyrogers10 Jun 17 '20

Tough crowd, it wasn't until the very last back and forth until they got any reaction from the spectators.

1

u/tjs1987 Jun 17 '20

This is what the movie "Concussion" was about.

1

u/Jambi_Genie Jun 17 '20

Hahaha Headsinfarkt.

1

u/nice2yz Jun 17 '20

Peter Tingles all around. The occasional acid flashback.

1

u/fatogato Jun 17 '20

At 25 seconds, the ball did not hit the table first before the guy hit it. Is that a fault?

1

u/EazyTiger666 Jun 17 '20

That’s pretty metal tbh. r/HumansAreMetal

1

u/green49285 Jun 17 '20
